Poured concrete vs block construction partial below grade

should be okay with setbacks. can't go any closer towards the street though, there is a parking pad with a vehicle parked on it in the satellite picture. initially had hoped to build a three-car wide garage but that is pipe dream with the setback issue. I will do some investigation before...

Poured concrete vs block construction partial below grade

New garage will be extended towards alley and neighbor's property as indicated by yellow line. House and yard grade is 4-5' above sidewalk/alley grade. There is block wall along alley as well as the deck. I'll check into ICFs as well.

Poured concrete vs block construction partial below grade

Not looking to DIY any of this. Just want to have some idea of what makes sense to be discussing with contractor. It will be around 26x28, and two of the walls are 4-5' below grade majority of their length. The yard originally was all that height with retaining wall and then a flipper built a...

Poured concrete vs block construction partial below grade

Looking to build a larger garage. I'm on a city corner lot with an alley and the back yard abutting 2 walls of the garage is 4-5' above grade. Current small garage uses block construction there with stick framing. I want to insulate and heat the new garage with OSB or plywood walls for...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

I am planning a roughly 30 by 30 ft garage with 10 ft ceiling, half with attic trusses and half with scissor trusses and a lift. A few years ago on my last garage that had all 10-ft ceilings I used the 4-ft fixtures with dual LED bulbs in a standard platonic solid recommended layout outlining...

Service door 5 feet up wall?

For clarity. Clearly the alternative would be that I excavate an area for some steps in the yard to drop the door down a couple feet. This creates a cavity for kids to fall into and will be a pain in winter to keep clear of snow and ice.

Service door 5 feet up wall?

Trying to get a rough idea of layout for garage on my tight city lot. We are about 5 ft above alley / street grade on the corner. Hence, garage has retaining wall on two sides. Currently service door entry is facing street, which means I have to walk down the sidewalk to get into my own...

    Alternatives to Snap-On 203FLSM 3/8" Lugnut sockets

I'll bump this. I like my Koken 1/2" drive sockets but they don't make 3/8" application. The thin wall, protective sleeve, and extension to keep your knuckles off the wheel are really nice.

    Flex Head ratcheting wrench sets??

Bumping this post - these things are listed at $310 now (?!?). The Tektons look like a way better deal but you lose the ability to deal with 12 point fasteners and they are not offset at all. Any other good options at this point?

    Rechargeable trouble light

Ooh nice. I didn't want to deal with 18650s, so I bought a nice Zebralight AA headlamp a few years back, and I have a bunch of Eneloop AA and AAA batteries for things around the house. Then recently, I went down the rabbithole with flashlights and ended up with a few 18650 cells and a charger...

    SK Flex Zone Impact Sockets

I agree that the rollout of products by SK is a bit confusing. There really seems to be a great opportunity here to sell high-quality american-made tools below the snap-on price point. I got a set of the x-frame wrenches which are great, but would really prefer flex or reversible offset head...
