When I solder I use map gas, burns at higher temp than propane and readily available at any hardware store. I always have a few damp rags within reach to cool things off, never had a problem with overheating.

Thanks for the input guys. I don't want to cheap out and put up **** lights and can't afford the real high end stuff so I guess like most people here I'll do some more research and try to find the best bang for the buck.
