40x60x13 lighting request advice

Hello All,
I just finished construction of my new shop and would like some advice on led lighting. A little about the shop 40x60 13 ft ceilings. Will be used for automotive repair and fabrication. The interior is finished with metal roofing. The ceiling is forest green and the lower 6ft of the walls is green. The upper 7ft of the walls is a light tan. I know the ceiling is dark but I had to use what materials I had. I wired the ceiling for 20 amp switched outlets to turn on/off the lights. I had planned to use Sams club linkable leds on the ceiling, then a friend told me
about the Garage Journal. Well now I see how many options are out there and now I need some help. I see a lot of guys are using strips and led bulbs, are the integrated leds good or? I really liked the linkable feature of the Sams club Honeywell lights. Any help is much appreciated.

I replaced all my 8ft fluorescents with these and couldn't be happier. I have a total of 11 lights and it is plenty bright.

Here's my take....
You just spent $50,000 plus on a new building, but, whether you realize it or not, you're shopping for lights in the "cheapest junk" aisle. You're going to use your lights more than any other tool in the shop. They're going to determine the productivity of your workers and help improve the quality of the work you do, not to mention make your space more comfortable to work in. You'll soon regret working under **** lights from Sams club, etc.
From 13 feet, you have tons of options. You can look at lowbays, which are essentially low powered highbays with wider beam angles. You can look at LED strip fixtures, wrap fixtures or even tubed fixtures.
One recommendation that I can make with your green ceiling is to embrace it.
If you hang fixtures from it, it will turn black and your place will look and feel uncomfortable. If you surface mount your lights or put a little uplight on it, it will be unique and a lot more interesting. It wont reflect much light, but at least it wont be a cave.

Thanks for the input guys. I don't want to cheap out and put up **** lights and can't afford the real high end stuff so I guess like most people here I'll do some more research and try to find the best bang for the buck.

I've installed 9 of the 12 of these I bought for my 36 X 30 X 13 building and with 3 running it's already brighter than my old shop running the cheap 4' LED fixtures (Sams, Costco, etc) I was provided a lighting plan and suggested light fixtures by PlatonicSolid on here. Worth the little extra I spent over buying twice as many 4' LED lights.

Does anyone know how to load a file into the Dialux program. I downloaded the program and looked in their catalog and can't find any Lumegen products.

I looked into some old lighting layout posts and found where they have been used before. I just wanted to get a better handle on the layout so i can order the correct amount. Looks like a pretty good deal.

The last thing I wanted was to have to work in a dark shop. I went with these 2' James (high bay) lights. Though it does not look overly bright in these pictures, believe me they are plenty bright and at the 13' min hang, the beam spread is even with no real hot spots or fall off.

My shop is approx. 30x50 and I placed 4 units in three rows and am unbelievably happy with my selection. I spec'd 100-110ft candles at 3.5 feet(working height) and these gave me close to 200. I will eventually have them all dimmed(currently I only have the center row) so I'll have lots of flexibility. These things are so bright I have to make sure to keep my main door slightly closed at night so as not to blast the neighbors. lol. BTW, while not cheap, they are less than 200 each and imo worth every penny. Quality construction, no flicker and so far have performed flawlessly. I bought the 56k color temp versions from here https://www.ledlightingwholesaleinc.com/ZY-H5-165W-p/zy-h5-165w.htm. FWIW, the price has DROPPED $35 each since I bought them last fall.

You can see them installed by clicking the link below. The 4' LEDs in the machine area are inexpensive 3 bulb units. I think they were $20 each + the bulbs.

$65 bucks is a great price, but in the title, it says it is = to 150w and in the side bar it says = to 200w.

Those look very similar to the James units I posted.

I used the Lithonia tool https://www.visual-3d.com/tools/interior/

You can load the .ies files for lights other than the Lithonia brands by going to the mfg. site you want to use and saving the .ies file for the light you are looking at. On the Lithonia tool, hit the green + button at the bottom and navigate to the file you just saved on your computer. It will load it in when you complete the dialog.
