I capped my two inch insulation with aluminum then the steel base plate was laid over it . Galvanized will rust when it touches the earth that you backfill with use aluminum .

I agree with having the vent running out horizontal with a tee on the end rather than a cut pipe , aids in exhaust flow . Is the PVC designated 636 ? And do not tell your insurance company who did the install , without a TSSA certificate working on gas is a no-no ! Al in Dundas
