What Temperature is your Garage in the Winter?

It depends on what I'm doing out there. I sweat a ton, so if I'm wrestling with suspension parts or similar, I like it at about 50. If I'm just putzing around with non-strenuous activities, I like it about 60. I have an electric space heater that does reasonably well in our temperate climate.

    T2's Garage Build

I've been using my new garage for almost two years now, and thought I'd give an update, along with some lessons learned that might be useful for others building similar projects. Overall, the shop has been great, but there are a few things I'd do differently. To recap: the garage is 24' wide...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT Bauhaus this house

Really cool house, and it's fun to see you and your wife doing the work together. My wife and I have done a fair amount of painting together over the years. I have an air cooled 911 and a BMW, but mine's an E30, so we have similar taste in several things.

    T2's Garage Build

Hey Odis, Well your garage build was one of the ones that inspired me! Plans going forward are to a bit uncertain. I suspect that my employment will not survive COVID budget cuts, so I'll have a lot of time to fill up. Will continue building my Porsche 911 hotrod. (That will never be...

    T2's Garage Build

Trusses arrived yesterday, and the first was placed this morning. I'm happy that the garage is relatively invisible from the street, tucked down in a hole behind the front greenery. It was important to me not to interfere with any neighbor's view or even make too much change in the...

    T2's Garage Build

Significant progress since the last update, with the walls mostly framed in despite awful Seattle weather. Man in photo is actual size. This garage will end up having the same enclosed volume as our entire house. Which in my book is just about right.

HELLFIRE polyurea coating review: prep, use, & results!

That table is as cool as it gets!

    Vapor barrier or no?

I greatly appreciate all the concrete and other knowledge here. I told my builder today that we are going with a 15 mil vapor barrier because the Hellfire vendor recommends it. Now I guess I'll have to buy the product!

    T2's Garage Build

Thank you. My mind's eye is already envisioning a BMW 2002 hotrod, in Inka Orange, like the one my wife and I took on our honeymoon almost 40 years ago. Genevieve was her name, and she overheated at toll booth lines on the Connecticut Turnpike. So my new bride and I spent our first day of...

    T2's Garage Build

Making some cool progress over the last few days. New Year's day, took the main occupant out for a tour of her new digs. Wife caught the moment I did the Steve McQueen salute.

    Vapor barrier or no?

Thanks for all the input guys. I plan on using Hellfire to finish the floor, and I have reached out to them for recommendations with respect to their product. I suspect their advice will be in accordance with what you guys are saying. I have experience with this builder, and he does not do...

    Vapor barrier or no?

I'm building my dream garage in Seattle, where the weather is moderate and temperate. My builder, for whom I have a lot of respect, recommends against a vapor barrier under the slab. He says that in cases like ours where the slab will be sealed with epoxy or otherwise finished, a vapor...
