Thanks for the pics! Very helpful! I wish I would have spent a little more time planning and built the trolley and loft at the same time as the frame, so it would have all been engineered together like yours.
I am really debating on using the existing frame at all for support... I can "easily"...
I have attached another picture showing my double doors.... The I-beam needs to rest above these doors.
In my sketch you can see how I plan to attach the middle support beam.... this will allow a trolley on the bottom beam to pass by.
Any comments, suggestions, words of wisdom, etc are...
I have a 30x50x14 metal building with a 6/12 pitch roof. There is plenty of room above my two 10x10 overhead doors that would make a good loft area. I came across some I-beams and my idea has been to use the I-beams for some of the loft structure but I also want it to double as an I-beam...
Hi everyone! Sorry I let the thread die, but I am here to give an update. Things got a little busy... we had 1000 sq ft plus a 2 car garage and large back porch added on to our house which kept me busy, and had kiddo #5. She just turned 6 months a few days ago :)
I did get some cleaning done...
Thanks again for everyone's suggestions!
I can see more of my floor. I am grouping items into keep/sale/giveaway piles. I have my trailer parked outside see for larger trash.
I have a good area cleared where I can pull this stuff away from the wall, clean the floor, build shelves up high, and...
Yeah it could definitely be worse. I guess I got fed up because I can't even pull a vehicle in without spending 30 min moving things around to make room. I want the main floor open so I can utilize all 3 overhead doors to pull vehicles in and out at any time. That's a tall order, but thats the...
Thanks for the advice guys!!
Lenny, I like your list. That's roughly what I am doing now, so it sounds like I am on the right track. And, since you asked, below is a pic just for you. I am thinking about putting a ~30" deep shelf up high in the wall opposite of the walk though door. The height...
I forgot to mention that I have a larger 50HP tractor as well that would lift whatever I needed, so no requirement for a forklift.
As long as the whole shop floor is clear I could manuever it where it would have to go.

My Ninja: In case you read this, I just wanted to say your words have been going through my head when cleaning up my **** show. Great motivation. I agree with you.
I am proud of what I have, but no one would know it by looking at this wreck.
And you're right about being amazed at people who...
I agree with you 100%. I will be setting g it up as you and others suggested. I made a few blunders along the way.
The first one was not wiring it to start. Everything that takes power ended up bunched up because I only had outlets in one corner.
The second was selling my 16' enclosed...
Picture of trailer, already have a small pile started! This should hold it all without a problem.

Thanks again for the advice everyone!!!
Question, should I start a new thread to document the progress, or just add to this one? And if I should start a new thread, what is the most appropriate forum category? It seems that organization and storage could have its own section on this forum, but...
Wow! Thanks for all of the comments! I appreciate it very much. I have already gained tons of inspiration.
I will admit, I like the lawnmower in the tractor bucket idea the best. If I do that I will definitely put it on YouTube! lol
Will post some progress pics over the next few nights. Just...
