@Speed-Racer: It's not the same tag, but thank you. The outfit I took it to said the bearings were fine. I'm taking it back to them tomorrow but not optimistic they will fix it given my experience so far. Most all Ajax motor images I've seen have metal data plates that can be read easily...

I will, but it was running fine and now it has 4 new caps and I've straight wired it to take the switch out of the equation, so I power it up at the breaker, and it's just hums with the belts in place and barely turns w/o them and popping the breaker to boot. What's left? I think they just put...

Yes, I metered it early in the process, before checking the caps. Also, they didn't put it under load...

I looked at the inspection plate and it all looked clean inside. Didn't realize there were points. It quit running 2 weeks ago and I noticed one of the starting caps was leaking oil. I replaced both, then it still wouldn't turn unless you "helped it" and then only slowly and I could tell it...
