I need a compressor until I get mine repaired and figured a smaller, portable would be good to have.. I found this one locally on FB Marketplace: CH mdl. WL610002AJ 110V, 20 gal, 5 hp. Can't find much about this model (what it sold for new) and I realize it's a lower end, but wondering if anyone has any thoughts pos. or neg. and what it's original & current value might be. Guy wants $200, which seems steep. Not sure if it includes hose or not...

I have an old C-H two-cyl, belt drive I've had for decades, I've made some repairs to it over time, but it's done well by me for decades. It was bought new by a friend, and when he moved out of state, I bought it. I have a Saylor-Beall 240V so the C-H just sits. I put an ad for it on CL but didn't get anyone crossing my palm w/$, so it sits. That was what I wanted for mine, and it's not a direct-drive. It's sitting in storage.

As has been stated already: 5HP my @$$!!

Here's another thing....controversial topic, and others may disagree....but these typically never get regularly / properly / completely drained. Water builds up, rust forms, and they do (occasionally, not often) burst.

Without knowing how it's been used & maintained, I would NEVER buy a use compressor.

And, yes, the direct-drive units are noisy, too.

I think it depends on the cost of an upgraded portable air compressor.

My uncle gave me his WL610001AJ, which is the same compressor but in silver. Every WL610003AJ that I've seen is blue. Otherwise, they're the same.

I also think it depends on your use for the air compressor.

I only need it to air up the tires on my 2001 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel, which take 84 PSI.

HOWEVER, I've seen these sell for $120 on FB... or $250 from a company of professional machinists who refurbish, repair and then sell.

So, that $200 wasn't the worst but it is definitely overpriced.

Possibly because when searching for a CH 5HP 20Gal 125psi air compressor the first thing you see is the new VT series at over $1,000. Yes, oil-cooled and belt driven... but $1,000+ is not pocket change... and if I'm going to spend that kind of money, then I'm going with more power and a bigger tank so that I can auto paint with my HVLP guns.

Just thought I'd add some recent insights for whomever checks this thread for any reason.

I was searching for the MFDs and Volts for the Start Capacitor on these old compressors as the one in mine lacks the MFDs and was probably a replacement because it's an outdated Aeromet II capacitor and because it's a 370V capacitor and most information seems to lean towards a 250V capacitor.

Otherwise, I have found no direct information or manuals with that information online... And Campbell Hausfeld hasn't responded to my inquiry yet.

Cheers!

You're running 84psi all around?

I run 80 psi on mine, but with the bed loaded it's sitting at around 19,000lbs.
