Enco carries those indicator bases. They are far any away the best bases. I can't believe I spent so many years using ****** bases. They are pricey but worth every damn penny. ~$100
$5k is too much for that Hardinge.
I've never used a Grizzly lathe. As another poster pointed out, the guys on Practical Machinist don't have a good thing to say about Chinese lathes.
Do your research and find a good quality used American lathe.
These mitutoyos are the best feeling calipers on the market. I know they aren't USA made, but they are the best. I have never been impressed with Starret calipers.
Don't buy the IP67 versions unless you really need the oil/grim protection. The seals inhibit the sliding action...
I bought a few pry bars, 3/8 Flex Armstrong ratchet, and some channellock pliers.
I wished I had seen that stubby Willams metric wrench set. I would of bought those as well.
If Europe is moving towards stainless tools its because of environmental issues surrounding chrome plating. Chrome platers are getting harder and harder to find in the United States. Its a nasty process and cleaning the plating tanks is even nastier.
