    4 Barrel barn build.

After yesterday's debacle I was happy to get the high wall fabricated on the deck. I braced it up temporarily to move it into position. I then set about standing it up against the existing wall with a chain hoist. I added more bracing to hold it upright while moving it into its final position...

That is a redundant solar water heater.

My horoscope today should have said "Just stay home!" I needed to go to town for groceries, took a cooler to keep the frozen goods frozen. I picked-up a load of heavy dense firewood on the back of the ute (pickup 🛻) on the way to town. Stopped for groceries after the firewood, then headed to...

A productive day on the tools today. 2 top beams in place and the top plates with nogging down to the girts. So that is both of the high walls done. I will do the scarf joint doublers next on them all, then onto the West wall between the high walls. One stick at a time!

A day off the tools today. Lawns to mow, groceries to buy, timber and hardware to buy too. See ya tomorrow.

Another day of working at heights. I got the 150 x 50mm top plate on and the nogging down to the girt. Happy with progress and great weather.

Back on the job again today. The theme for the day was "working at heights". First off was marking and cutting the rebates for the top beam. Once the four rebates were cut I marked out and cut the first of the top beams on the new bench I showed you all in the last post. Working on my own can...

Miserable rainy days recently, but it is the middle of winter here! This morning I attached the strap bracing on a few more poles where the engineer requires it. These 2 bays have strapping in between poles in the shop floor area, but this won't be a problem as I will be putting full height...

Yesterday was abandoned due to the weather. Today made up for it though. I started out cutting a rebate in each pole (8 in all) ready to receive the beams. One at a time I marked and cut each beam before lifting into position 3 metres up the pole. One end at at a time, walking them up the pole...

Thanks man. I'm not sure if I am courageous or a control freak!

Another couple of small wall sections sorted today. These sections are finished with double diagonal strap bracing. Plenty of temporary bracing to get the poles plumb before I filled in the gaps with 6x2s. This afternoon I marked up on the poles the spots where I will cut rebates for the next...

We poured the concrete on the 13th then first coat of epoxy on the 28th, that's 2 full weeks to cure before we sealed it.

More work on the Western front today. Today was a mini milestone, the first box of 500 screws is empty. Last thing today I went to the neighbors to pick up the scaffolding he is loaning us. It will certainly be a lot safer than standing atop a ladder.

The West wall work has ceased for the day. Those of you with the sharp eye for detail will notice the girt spacing is 600mm on one section from the corner. This anomaly is due to the span of these girts being greater than all the others. I must remember this fact when it comes time to fasten the...

First vehicle in the shed today. Gives a good sense of scale. Working on the West wall I figured it was a lot less walking to take the timber to the wall.
