    The VISES of Garage Journal

Can anyone shed some light on this vise? I would like to know where it was made. USA? Approximate year? Is "Improved" the brand? The nut is cast into the base. I should add I'm in Australia and it's not the style we normally see.

    Steel workbench for new garage.

1/4" is plenty for a work bench. The frame design is what will make it stiff. Think about if you want to ever move it. Castors used with screw jacks when it's parked? A steel bench with a top that thick will be really heavy.

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

The issue with the water bottles is the bacteria that can come from in the cap. Hence the use by date on them.

Thinking about going through "stuff bankruptcy"

Have a big clean out of "stuff"keep all your tools etc but move the rest on. Auction or scrap it. Dont worry about the value of stuff. You will regret it early on but in time you will feel so relieved

    Ideas for a mobile workbench.

That is a good way of doing it. I was thinking of jacking up the feet instead of the casters but I was concerned I would not be able to keep it steady enough. That way eliminates the issues.
