Can anyone shed some light on this vise?
I would like to know where it was made. USA? Approximate year?
Is "Improved" the brand?
The nut is cast into the base.
I should add I'm in Australia and it's not the style we normally see.
There has been other threads about shop stools, maybe a bit more searching?

1/4" is plenty for a work bench. The frame design is what will make it stiff. Think about if you want to ever move it. Castors used with screw jacks when it's parked? A steel bench with a top that thick will be really heavy.
I recently spoke to a guy who was a pr guy for Timken bearings when they built there first factory in China. He said they were open about where their bearings were made unlike some competitors.
Have a big clean out of "stuff"keep all your tools etc but move the rest on. Auction or scrap it. Dont worry about the value of stuff. You will regret it early on but in time you will feel so relieved
That is a good way of doing it. I was thinking of jacking up the feet instead of the casters but I was concerned I would not be able to keep it steady enough. That way eliminates the issues.
