Its about time. Been procrastinating too long.

Still have a copy of the blueprints from my barn build. However at 68 I don't want to tackle that kind of a build again. Hoping to erect an adequate structure for my needs at a reasonable cost. Isn't everyone? This will be a 1 person build so have to consider ease of build. This build will...

New Hampshire foundation and slab prices...

Given the New Hampshire winters and that you want a future second floor I am thinking the 4' frost wall is the way to go. You don't want frost heaves messing with the support. What does the local building/planning board say? They are the ones who have to approve your plans to issue a permit.

Its about time. Been procrastinating too long.

Have a small 4 acre plot of land with only a couple spots suitable (to me) for building. Stick built would have character whereas metal buildings leave something to be desired in my opinion. Have to consider the fire season here in the dry foothills. thanks.

Its about time. Been procrastinating too long.

Time to get serious. I've a 45' trailer loaded up with woodworking stuff that has been sitting way too long. Need to get my "sawdust therapy". Looking at metal buildings and "Tuff Shed". Would love a big shop but have budget restraints. So something in the 30'x40' range is my current...

    Garage foundation depth?

When I was living in NH many years ago the foundation footings had to be a couple feet below the frost line/depth. So check with your local building commission/department. In Russia I understand that they excavate for footings then leave it "open" to the elements for a year or more. ???

Waterproof walls to allow washing floors- Ideas welcome

Heard of a guy who wanted to wash out the garage on regular basis. He poured a 3" raised "platform" around edges of garage. Didn't have to worry about bases of cabinets getting wet/moldy/rotten or wheels of roll around items rusting. Think he did it before putting up walls tho'. Guess you...

I can't decide what size detatched garage to build

Being a detached structure I would say the size as compared to the house is of little importance. Go as large as you can on your property. You don't want to be cramped when working on a project. Constantly having to move things, tripping over things etc. gets old real fast. I'm hoping to...

Reinforce attic trusses with structural steel tubing??

I would check with truss companies before placing any kind of a load on pre-engineered trusses. They are engineered for the roof load, not a load on the bottom chord or ceiling rafter. Would hate to see a failure of bottom chord and have storage items land on top of your pride and joy.

    Pressure washers

have not heard of Kranzle, will check it out. is that a pressure regulator I see on there? have looked at Karcher at Northern Tool. gas powered may last longer but for limited usage I expect I'll have I don't want to mess with gas. splash and spray with indoor use is to be expected but...

    Pressure washers

Been contemplating a pressure washer. Will be limited usage around home so electric probably wisest choice. Pressure washing deck, grout on tile floor, scale from very hard water etc. Figure I won't need real high pressure, probably 1600-1800 psi. Some usage will be inside house so water...

    wish I would have....

Pour 2' wide raised portion of concrete (3" or height of toe kick) around sides of slab/floor for your cabinets, tool chests etc. Then when you want to hose out garage no worries about water damage to cabinet bases. If you are vertically challenged (short) adjust height of pour or shorten...

    Opinions on inside insulation protection

drywall would be cheapest but 1/2" plywood or OSB more durable with added plus of being able to screw almost anything anywhere on wall.

    Newbie

Brother reccommended this site. Checked out a few pages and decided to join. Hope to pick up some good ideas here. Had a 24'x48' Dutch Gambrel barn I drew the plans for and built. Unfortunately lost it in a divorce. Now thinking of a smaller garage/workshop building where I can enjoy some...
