Help identifying this air tool plug

Thanks again, for everybody's replies and suggestions. I wanted to close this thread properly. The 1/4 bspp male to 1/4 npt female adapter worked wonderfully. That adapter threaded into the tool, and then an industrial style 1/4 npt male Milton plug worked great.

Help identifying this air tool plug

Very interesting replies, everybody. Thank you! I just ordered a 1/4 bspp male to 1/4 npt female adapter from Amazon to see if it fits. If it does, I'll screw one of my plugs into it. If it doesn't work, I'll try making a small hose adapter or a universal coupling as some people suggested...

Help identifying this air tool plug

I'm not an expert air tool guy and I could use your help. I have an little air powered vacuum that I picked up. The plug that came with the tool doesn't fit on my hose couplings and so I need to find a replacement plug. I'm guessing the plug is the hi-powered variant because the end has a...

Please tell me whether this is a bad idea...

I did something that I should have done previously. I got myself a thread count gauge and a big magnifying glass. Looks like the original drain plug is indeed 1/8" NPT. Thanks all! -Bryan

Please tell me whether this is a bad idea...

Thank you to each of you for your responses, especially the suggestion to compare the threads of the original male oil drain plug with that 1/8 NPT plug that I had and also with my 1/8 BSPT adapter. I know my old eyes aren't great anymore, but I got the brightest light I could find and shined...

Please tell me whether this is a bad idea...

I've got an Ingersoll Rand Garage Mate 20 gallon air compressor (upright version). Like a lot of air compressors, it seems, the oil drain plug is in a really bad place that facilitates making a mess during oil changes. This year, I decided that I would put an adapter in there and then put a...

Brand New Air Compressor, Slowly Losing Air, Am I Using it Incorrectly?

Time to close up this thread. Ingersoll Rand came out today. They removed the bung, which they said was not tight. They inspected the threads and gasket which they said looked good. They then put some kind of thread compound on the threads and reinstalled it. Problem fixed. I know that...

Brand New Air Compressor, Slowly Losing Air, Am I Using it Incorrectly?

If it was out of warranty, I wouldn't think twice about doing that. But if the threads are messed up in there I don't want to void my warranty by messing with it on my own.

Brand New Air Compressor, Slowly Losing Air, Am I Using it Incorrectly?

As promised, here is an update. An Ingersoll-Rand tech came out today. Apparently the purpose of this visit was to inspect and confirm the issue I had reported to them. Now, he goes back to Ingersoll Rand and tells them the issue and they will tell him how they want to solve the problem. He...

Brand New Air Compressor, Slowly Losing Air, Am I Using it Incorrectly?

Their visit was delayed due to a massive snow storm last week, combined with crazy cold temperatures. We postponed the visit. They are now supposed to come out this coming Monday. I'll report back after that.

Brand New Air Compressor, Slowly Losing Air, Am I Using it Incorrectly?

I can definitely appreciate that sentiment. @gatewaysysop However, I'm happy to report that I have already received a phone call from an Ingersoll Rand repair tech. They are now scheduled to come out to my home a week from today. Quite pleased with the speed of the turnaround of the warranty...

Brand New Air Compressor, Slowly Losing Air, Am I Using it Incorrectly?

I tried calling thir tech line today and was on hold for about 10 minutes. I just didn't have the time to wait on hold today. So, I've opened a warranty claim/service request at http://www.irrecipservice.com/ Hopefully, it doesn't take too long for me to hear back from them.

Brand New Air Compressor, Slowly Losing Air, Am I Using it Incorrectly?

This was a great question. I just went out and checked again -- spraying soapy water very carefully and with a rag to wipe away the excess. The leak is definitely coming from the threads. -Bryan
