Anyone familiar with REALLY OLD vises? Like Pre-Civil War, I'm guessing? I came across a "Gregg's Patent" pipe vise (no, don't scroll by, I'm willing to bet you've never seen a pipe vise like this before...) and the ONLY thing I could find about it on the internet was that there is a US Patent...

Yup, got plenty of RR tracks for that use. :) I have some overly large aluminum jaws on my Starrett vise, I'll probably move them over to the Reed at some point. I'm considering machining the old jaws out, then installing a set of more readily available replacement jaws. This is no amazing...

Are you still by some chance looking for the handle specs? My 306 has a welded-on ball on one end, and what's left of the weld for the other handle end keeping the handle from dropping onto the floor. Even with the mods, I have no reason to believe it's not original.

Interested in any literature/info on the 300 series too. I just picked up a 306, which is the largest vise I have now, but of course not quite the size of the 308 here..... I also have to figure out to recut the jaws, as there's no indication of the serrations left, and they're the hot...
