How would you build a 40x64x16 garage in New England?

I built the exact building you're talking about 2 years ago in sputhern Maine I think frost wall/stick built is the way to go in our climate. Especially if you plan to insulate and heat it like you are. I have radiant, keep the whole building at 58 and burn about 100 gals. per month when...

Question on sliding doors for contractors or experienced renovation guys…

Bondi is a good idea, there is a 2 part wood filler that is similar but I find will hold screws better. If you have a circular saw with you you could get some cheap doors and put a redneck dado in them with a few passes. Your OCD should be safe as it would not be visible at the top

    Man door for 6' opening.

I had a similar opening between 2 rooms in the shop I just built. I ended up building a sliding barn door. Couple sheets of 3/4, then glued and screwed some rough cut to it. 14' Door track (My opening is 7') came from amazon. I have radiant on both sides so I wasn't concerned about...

This is Harper, our 1 yr old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. Her shop time has been limited during the puppy phase as she will eat anything on the floor and I'm still under construction. We both learned the hard way when she started eating romex.

Pricing for detached garage in new england help

I'm in the middle of a 40x64 in southern Maine. I'll end up with about 70-75k in when I'm done. For Apple's to apples: 5' foundation wall, Anderson windows, cedar shakes and pine shiplap siding, 8/12 scissor trusses, 5 in slab with radiant. All work done by myself except concrete, roofing...

Healthcare provider needs some serious advice about garage living.

X10 on the CO detector. Use electric heaters as kerosene and propane have their own dangers. Would be quick and easy to use a big roll if plastic from a paint store or box store and seal off the ceiling and walls. Insulation isnt dangerous but im sure its dusty. Sherwin Williams is doing...
