Lol. Currently using a HF with 16" drawers. I won't know what to do with all the space

I just got the model number... MB8535, which from a search here seems like it's the equivalent to the 6S. Seems like a taker

Yup, that’s a keeper. It sure looks to be in great shape and they were damn good boxes from the start.

I need a bigger box (72" min, 84" would be great) and this came up on FBMP.

My usage would be really light, but I know nothing about these

If I bought new, I'd likely go for this.

Currently have an older HF 44". I hate the drawer layout in the new ones and want to go 24"+ deep
You would be Nuts (with a capital N) to do anything other than buy that box.

Check all the drawer slides and look at drawer liner state as new decent liner is real money on that size and drawer quantity .
As he open to offers make an offer judged on your findings form viewing and giving it a proper going over .
They nice boxes (all my current shop boxes are used Matco, tend be where the best deals are at) and that is potentially very reasonable coin for a truck brand box that going blow you mind coming from gen1 44" USG .
Current global wars, tarrif drama and massive oil price spikes means tool boxes not going be getting cheaper so make most of any current time offerings ...
Good luck, hope it a tidy one and sweat deal ...

I hate negotiating on the spot unless something is not as advertised. Only exception would be truly big ticket things like a car

If I'm going to the trouble of meeting someone, I'm planning to pay asking price.

Make sure you remind him how far you had to drive as a negotiating point. As if somehow it got farther away after you left home. That’s what I get most frequently. .

if it’s bigger than you expected, feel free to drop it off at my house. I’ll store it for you, no charge.

Yes, I don't turn up with less than listed price and I be willing pay that if nothing to haggle about but when a seller lists ONO I would hardly ever pay the full asking price unless it exceptional and buyer been extra helpful, listed good details, done good images and cleaned it before sale.
Mpst times you going find likes of unseen dents, twisted wheel and some slides that bit funky, no key or key but funky locking and if not clearly mentioned it changes the real world value .
Generally with used boxes like this you going be putting in 200 to 400 bucks to sort drawer liners, a work surface, a couple sets of slides or new wheels / locks.
Hope you made it home with your body organs and a new to you box, I love the older Matco boxes, hope you do too ...

It's dirty, but not body shop dirty, at least.

Some rust on the bottom back, the casters operate like **** and the slides are dirty and gummy, but everything opens and operates so far.

Cleaning it out as we speak

Whats the best course of action for the drawer slides? Brake cleaner and a spray lube of some sort? Or do they have to come apart and be greased?

I have a similar Matco at my shop - I think newer, it's only about 4 years old - I think it's a 6 something - nice box. I would say very heavy duty build, and the wheels are made for moving a forklift. The only addition is I wish it had soft close drawers on it. I've got a ton of tools in it.

Unless the grease is built up and hard I just use PB Blaster and work it. It seems to do an excellent job of cleaning out the debris without drying out the rollers like brake cleaner then lubing. But it does make a mess so definitely layout some rags if you go that route.

You are going to have to post detailed pics to get good answers here. But, if I were you I would start identifying the box. Part number, serial number. It probably has a lifetime warranty. So getting new slides and casters should not be a problem. In my experience, Matco customer service over the phone is pretty good. I would start out saying “I have tool box part number 455445 and I need some parts such as slides and casters and other little things. What do I need to do to get replacements.” I have done this before and I always got what I needed. Plan b, clean and lubricate.

I'm in the camp of trying to clean what you got before going the new slides route. They may be just as good with a proper cleaning.

Will do.

Model number is MB8535 and production date is 7/27/99

They're accuride slides.

The spring that holds the brake up is not doing it's job on one Caster... Made it a real PIA to load and unload.

I have no intention of moving this around once it finds its home and its a little tall, so I'm thinking about making some leveling feet for it. TBD

Biggest issue with old Matco is slides and wheels, harder get replacement slides from Matco than for snappy, wheels easy upgrade if do intend move it a lot .
If need a lot of new slides it gets expensive quick and set of decent wheels not super cheap .
Hopefully you get lucky on slides and cleaning get them good enough .
The drawers do look align right when closed so hopefully good clean will help a fair bit.
Way I do them is remove slides and soak in diesel, use a plastic pipe capped off cut to suitable length for slides .
sometines it a case of soak for a day then remove and scrub with a part cleaner brush and perhaps zap with brake clean and compressed air on tricky dirt packed areas then re-soak .
As for lube some dry type spray lube can be best as attracts less dirt but it can be a case of trying few things to see what gives best gains to old slides .

What I did, and 2 years ago no regrets, is remove the casters and put the box on blocks. I wouldn’t move it around anyways, impossible to steal without a forklift of something, more stable, I can set the height to where I want it. It worked out well. An idea to ponder. I saved the old casters just in case I decide to sell it.

The slides, Matco may just send you a complete new set, free of charge. All I did was ask and they sent me a new set. If not, remove all drawers, remove all slides. Have lots of pb blaster on hand. Hold them over a bucket and spray. Working the slides in and out.

Nice purchase. That will continue to clean up nicely and serve you well for years to come. I am jealous seeing in your photo that you already have flowers popping up out of the ground. A few more weeks up here in New England, for which I am thankful for and eagerly awaiting the change of season.

We moved from MA a few years ago, so I appreciate the difference.

I am not a gardener at all but I love those daffodils. They come up in late Feb and go full bore for a couple weeks in March. A little bit of nice before the great pollening 😂

MB85 cabinets are 28 inches deep externally .
MB75 drawer measure be around 22 inches deep .
They about 45.5 inches overall height and the 35 is 76" length while the 2 bay 25 version is 57 inches length .
it a lot of box for 1400 bucks ... you never going loose money on it ...
