Do you need these sockets for your empty cases?
I have like 14 left lol so it won't even make a dent ha. I already have a pile of those anyway. Just not really a priority. I think I still have 2 left with the carb o mang label. I have seen those do pretty decent complete

Does anyone have an S-K Wayne 45116 1/2" 6-point shallow 3/8" drive socket they'll part with?
- same era as the 45118 in the pics.
...also an S-K Wayne 45170 3/8" ratchet and 45160 3" 3/8" drive extension. (I know - pushing my luck...)
Thanks.

I believe that I have all of those in my Wayne spares. Unfortunately, I won’t be where they are until mid October. If you can wait until then you are welcome to them. IMG_5232.jpeg

Thank you, Don - that's very kind of you. If we get to October and I still need them, I will let you know.

That is a #4097 set dated 1938 or slightly earlier. I don’t know why your 7 is missing and there isn’t a 1937 catalog to consult. The indicators of age is that the sockets are all 12 or 8 point and I assume marked S-K Chrome. Here is mine which doesn’t have a decal. The prewar or wartime flex handles are unmarked.IMG_7876.jpegIMG_7881.jpeg

Here is most of my S-K tool collection. The large box was purchased new in 1953 by a friend of mine who passed away late last year. I found a similar looking box in my 1936 Baker & Hamilton hardware catalog, with a P/N of 4000. Mine has a P/N of 4010R, and I have yet find an old 1950's S-K catalog so I can check the Inventory of it. Does Anyone have any old 50's-60's S-K Catalogs?

When did the boxes get the side ears that prevent boxtop overbite?

Based on my examples there was no notch on the boxes in 1941 but there was in 1943. Probably during the transition from S-K Chrome to S-K. I suppose the government could have experienced some of the boxes that got stuck shut like I have and insisted on the addition of the notches but that would just be a theory.

I think that I can barely make out the notches in this WW2 photo.

The Brazil change seems to go along with the S-K timeline as well, not too surprisingly. When I decided to make a replica Brazil box I had to make the decision to go with a notched lid box or one without the notches. IMG_5688.jpegIMG_7440.jpegIMG_5855.pngIMG_5856.jpeg

Looks like 1/4" & 3/8" drive set. The ones I have found have 3/8" drive tools and adapter for 1/4" and a spinner handle.
It measure's 2" x 3 1/2" x 17", which is bigger than a 1/4" & 3/8" set. I am pretty sure it is a 1/2" & 1/4" set, but I was trying to figure out what else went into it.

The reason I was asking is because I have this S-K Wayne box that has exactly the same measurements and I couldn't find any information on it, there were 1/2" sockets marks in the box for 10 sockets, the rest I filled in from similar boxes I found on eBay.

I feel your pain. I don't have any of the bits you need, still trying to assemble a set of deep metric sockets in 3/8" from the Dresser Industries era. And my nephew needs a set of metric shallows AND deeps to round out his starter vintage S-K set.

I just keep thinking what my dad used to say: "If you want something, keep looking. Keep your eyes open, keep scrounging, keep searching. Eventually you'll find what you want for a price you're willing to pay".

It's all out there - somewhere! I still have some energy for digging through the flea markets, junk stores, tag sales, etc.
There's a ton of S-K stuff in my area - I often buy the ratchets and extensions, and some nicer DBEs, OEs and combo wrenches.
I've been thinking lately that I should just pick up all the decent S-K sockets I see - probably could build some sets fairly easily.
But it can be hard to get motivated to dig through a pile of random sockets, especially if they're in a container on the ground, since I'm old and don't bend in the middle any more!

I carry a walking stick for a reasons - well two - #1 is if my back spasms. then I need it. #2 is if I squat, I can "climb the pole" to get back up...

Here is a slightly earlier 1/4”/ 1/2” drive set that I’ve never found in any catalog. It might contain the same tools as the new long box. When the set doesn’t appear in any catalog it is necessary to use what tools would logically be included.

I think the longer one was made to include a breaker bar. This was one that was for sale on eBay that I used as a guide for the one I have.10.jpg

I'm pleased when I come across S-K stuff

The problem that I have is.... I just can't seem to remember which sockets are the ones that I need to fill gaps and holes....
This size or that size....
...this size lettering or that size...
...do I need 12 pt or 6 pt?

...and it seems I guess wrong just about every time :ROFLMAO:
I've finally decided to make a list

I came across these yesterday
