Craftsman 150 drill press question. Chuck removal, and alternate chucks?

I have my Dad's old drill press from the mid 1950s. From what I have seen here, it is a Craftsman 150- It has the safety collar above the chuck. I have never removed one of these before, and I am investigating whether I can remove the stock chuck and replace with a 5/8 inch chuck. I have real need for that larger chuck.

How do you take one of those chucks off, and are there any 5/8 inch chucks that would install easily?

Your 150 should have a Jacob’s 633C safe-lock chuck.

The jack shaft setup is done. I'll paint the plywood, so it looks better. :cool: They are spacers to make room for the pillow-block bearings. The theoretical spindle speeds are 270, 513, and 912 RPM. As mentioned at the top of this thread, the motor is rated 1140 RPM. Now I need to decide on a...
