lol thanks - I am curious to see how much use we get out of it. Either way, they’ve been helping build it, which is a win for me.Dude, you're killing it! Kids will use it for at least a few minutes
I jest, I jest. My kids are 8 and 10 and still use the swing set a lot. More than the tree house I spent tons of time and money on
Rightfully so!Felt pretty good about my TIG welds
Those tubes look fairly thick. Why not just tap the tubes directly.Right now the plan is to drill holes in the saddles for 7/16-14 bolts that will thread into nuts welded to the uprights (drill an oversize hole in the upright that fits the nut corner-to-corner diameter then TIG weld in place).
The concern I'm having is welding the nuts to the uprights and if that's an issue. Looking in a few places, it sounds like that's a no-no to weld nuts/bolts in structural applications, but I'd be TIG welding the nuts in place to minimize heat input, and even with Grade 2 nuts/bolts I'd have plenty of strength.
I looked into riv nuts to get around having to weld nuts in place (and would be faster too), but it sounds like they don't like being installed in curved surfaces.
Are there other solutions or will welding in place be fine? I'd assume there's more risk welding a grade 8 nut in place vs grade 2 due to the metallurgy difference.
Great thought! I have been dreading all the paint prep and painting. For kicks, id get a quote to sandblast and powdercoat. That’s a ton of material to wire wheel and then paint. Brushing will take forever and spraying tubing wastes a lot of paint. Powdercoat will look better and last a lot longer
If powder coating is crazy expensive, another option is electrostatic painting which uses wet paint. It’s an impressive process with low waste and oversprayGreat thought! I have been dreading all the paint prep and painting.

I‘ve seen one large enough to park a dump truck in. It belonged to a shop that repaired mining equipment.where are you going to find an oven big enough to powercoat THAT?
My son wants me to do a track like that in the field part of our yard. I need to figure out what issues there'd be with the fact the septic sprayers are also in that area.
That's a great idea! I hate wasps and that's a great reminder; I was thinking about 3D printing some covers that snap in place but foam would be a quick first step (and will likely end up being the final solutionMaybe consider some landscape expanding foam to seal up those wasp nest entry points when you assemble. We are going to do that with the playground we are building.
Thanks!Looks awesome, nice work
