Hello, I have acquired a Rockwell Drill press #15-665. The internal wiring and cable was in bad shape so I've replaced all of that but I kept the original push-button switch which I'd like to remain operational.
I'd like to add a RS-1-SH drum switch, and had a question about mounting the switch. What approaches do you suggest?

The pic below shows the motor and junction box housing. I have a few possible ideas:

  1. A metal plate similar to this: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/atlas-63-drill-press-restoration-resto-mod.489265/ https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/attachments/20220521_tools-d75_7416-jpg.1666869/ that goes between the motor mount and the head.
pros: It would be facing forward and at a good height
cons: I have to fabricate that plate which I don't really know how to do

  2. I could drill holes in the metal plate covering the junction box and mount the switch to that.
    pros: Easy to do
cons: the switch would be facing sideways, and while the metal junction box cover is solid, it wasn't really designed for this purpose

  3. Create some sort of system that mounts it to the column
pros: The switch could be a bit closer
cons: more complicated to figure out the mounting approach

  4. Something else?

Looking at your first option, a simple metal plate will allow mounting the switch in either orientation shown in those pics. Use the cover on the motor as a template for the mounting holes. A long plate will allow mounting the switch with the lever facing you with an up and down movement, or a 90 degree bend in the plate will allow mounting the switch facing you with a left right movement.
