The main selling point for me with the AMS (I'm an AMS Lite user--A1) is being able to swap between four filaments without having to unload the type I have in by hand, then swap it for another, then feed it in by hand--that was tedious as heck on my AD5M. Meanwhile, swapping filament on the A1 with the AMS Lite is simple as push button and everything is automated.

As I do more and more multicolor though, I've seriously been considering the Snapmaker U1, but more and more companies are now going with low-waste systems and tool changers at lower prices. As it sits, the A1 wastes a ton of filament when I'm doing multicolor in the same print. I'll have a poop bucket of waste that likely weighs as much as the print, if not more.

Also, the A2L's ability to use the cutter and plotter are tempting--and it can still use the same AMS Lite as on my A1.

I recently bought an A1 with ams lite, still learning, but i have noticed the time and poop penalties. What they need is a 4 nozzle head unit so no purging is necessary, just need to calibrate the nozzle locations so the head can offset that much and keep printing.

So I spent a few weeks reading the last 100 pages of this thread and am thinking about getting a Bambu P1S and a Sunlu S2 dryer. I am on the fence about AMS and curious what others think about it. I am thinking of getting the AMS 1 bundle from Microcenter which adds $131 but want opinions on if it is worth it to upgrade to the AMS2?

Primary usage will be to print custom sized Schaller bins for hardware, probably using gridfinity. I think these need to be PTEG for durability and heat resistance in my shop. My 12 yo said he wants to be able to print fidgets and I am sure I will also want to print other organizers for my toolbox.
Consider the size you might want to print. I replaced my Flashforge 5M with a Creality K1max specifically for the extra print area. Conversely, if you are ok with the older 220x220mm print standard, the FF 5M is currently $150 via t the deals sites. Excellent value.

Despite having AMS units on two printers, I don't do Multicolor prints due to the waste. I use the AMS to allow prints easily to run through the end of a spool as well as to have drying space. Both of mine are the original AMS but with sunlu heaters on them.

Without a question, if I was buying new at the P series price point, I'd get a p2s with an AMS. It has much more capability than the p1s for not much more money

I messed up models... I would either go P1s or X2D

Just need to upgrade to the H2C. Easy peasy

I was hoping to stay under $400 but you have a good point as the P2S is quite a step up from what I have read. I’ll reconsider this unit.
Mrs. Fourjeepin won’t be thrilled if I double the budget. What kitchen/cooking gadget can I make for her to convince her it will be worth the expense?
I have made the Mrs dozens of different cookie cutters.

Def get the AMS and if you can swing it the P2S BUT the P1S is a great unit to start with and if you get to the point you need something better you will probably want 2-3 printers anyway.

I'm thinking quality over quantity and getting a pretty good one vs. going for an entry level now and a good one later. And the Bambu because I want it to just work vs. tinkering with it. I've got enough things to fix already, def don't need to add to the list.
Planning to drop by Microcenter tomorrow....

I'll echo what others have said, if you can swing it the P2s is the sweet spot. You get the enclosed chamber, better screen, and pretty much the latest design without the $$$$ of an H2 series. If you think you'll print with filament other than PLA or PETG you are going to want an enclosure and even with PETG it prints nicer in an enclosure. This is coming from someone that bought an X1C on the kickstarter and bought an H2C combo on the black Friday sale.

I don't regret getting the H2C but if I were to start a print farm/business I'd get a bunch of P2S' and not look back. I got an H2C mainly because I do about 50-50 multi-color prints (more than two colors) vs single or dual color prints.

Just to note, I don't use the screen on the P1S for anything. Not sure what anyone would even use the screen for? I do almost everything from my phone or laptop? I just don't think the screen thing is that big of a deal. The P1S does everything I want a printer to do. I'm not sure I would gain anything from the P2S. If I was going to make the jump to something else right now I would spend enough to get something with dual heads, otherwise the P1S is fine but for the small increase if I were starting now I would probably go with the P2S. If someone were to make me a great deal on a P1S right now, I would also buy a second P1S and not feel bad about it. What I am getting at is the P1S is still a good printer and better than most out there, so if money is a concern you won't be unhappy with a P1S.

I do use the screen regularly on my P1S's. Load, unload filament on the one with the sunlu s2, repeating the last print and changing nozzle sizes are the most common. I do wish it could do more, like skipping a part and changing filament type, so I didnt have to use the app.

After suffering through years with an ancient ender 3 I jumped on the bambulabs "sale" and picked up an X2D combo. Jumping up many generations in tech since my ancient old ******* but I'm looking forward to simplified printing. It's been a long while since I've used the ender because it was such a pain to print with. Between the cnc and just basic metal fabrication if I needed anything I'd do it with other methods, but I am looking forward to the ease of click and wait. Hopefully the modern bambu printer life is all it's been hyped up to be.

I went back and forth between models, X2D, P2S, P1S and ended at buy once cry once, X gives me some overhead on the future I figure and certainly offers a fair bit of bonus between the features it has over the P's. I find the second extruder really appealing for supports and multicolour especially. Most of my prints are functional things like jigs, and tool organization so some basic labelling with two different same filaments is appealing, and same for supports with different filaments. Glad I finally pulled the trigger, now I just hope it's awesome.
