Another consolidation of life. I posted some of this before elsewhere. I don't remember exactly where and what. So sorry, if I am repeating myself.
I've been working on the house. It started innocently enough. I took my friend to a carpet place. I've been meaning to have my carpets replaced about 5 years ago. I that point, the carpets would have been 25 years old. I picked out the carpet. Got a call from the owner. He said I picked the most expensive carpet in the store. (Not sure how he got the impression I was frugal after the measurements.) First quote, $8500 . Second quote, $6000. After I picked out another that was very nearly the same.
One thing led to another. I figured I should paint all the bedrooms. I take a long time to make decisions when there is nothing pressing. I can make fast and quick decisions when there is a deadline. Picked paint colors.
I needed to move all the heaviest stuff out of the rooms for the carpet guys. Box up for all the nick knacks. Clear out the closets. Things like a Metro shelf unit full of books and models. Shift all the furniture away from the walls. And so forth...
Here's where Murphy's law takes effect.
I had 2 weeks to paint before the carpet install. I thought the quickest way would be to use the airless sprayer. I masked all the rooms which took several days. Ripped up all the baseboards. Nice part was I didn't have to be worried about the carpet.
I started the first room got done with one and a quarter walls. The sprayer stopped working. Took the gun apart and found the filter completely clogged. Tried to flush the filter. Ended up replacing it. Started again. Sprayer worked for a little while stopped again. Cleaned the inlet filter. Worked and stopped. I then proceeded to clean the entire sprayer and pump for a day. (Or should say wasted a day.) I broke the inlet valve and fixed it. Or so I thought. The only thing I did that was smart was to test it with water and then abandon the spray the room option.
Things that happened along the way. I wasted paint trying to spray the one room. The previous color, a bright yellow was showing through the first coat. I went to prime the ceiling first to avoid the second coat. Opened a bucket of primer that the painters had left from doing the outside of the house. and this is what I found.

Rust in the paint. Great... I filtered the paint. Had just enough to do the ceiling. Tossed the bucket. Win...
I started cutting in the front bedrooms and I noticed something wrong but I was so tired from the previous days. I was just pushing through. What I failed to notice was the color was off. When I realized it. I opened the second can which was the right color. The other can was the base. No pigment. I headed to the paint store. I needed another gallon for the first room and a gallon of Navajo white. I finished Saturday evening.
One room, before and after.

Couple of days behind my self imposed schedule but still ahead of the carpet install.
I removed the rest of the baseboards in the closets and hallway. Then moved anything off the floor in the closets.
While in the closet, (Which I know sounds wrong.) I didn't like the way the shelf was carpeted around the legs. I cut them off at 45 to the wall.

The main stair case has been needing some repair since I bought the house. There was a miss cut on the stair trim. You could see a gap. I had complained to builder but they did nothing. Also the seams were done like ****. Not to mention that they painted the trim flat white.

I patched the hole. Sanded, filled and sanded the seams.

Peeled back the carpet. I used drywall screws to hold while painted the trim a satin finish.

The last thing I did was add a plywood plate for the safe to sit on. It's better than having it sit on carpet.

I've got a few touch ups to do but I'm ready for the carpets.
