Yellowstone is a very nice place! I took so many pictures through my spotting scope that I need to weed out the good ones still. This was 2 years ago.

I’m looking at 4-6 weeks of recovery but I can already see that the macular hole seems to be fixed. My vision is now basically like I’m looking down thru a glass of oily water but if I look closely at print (almost touching my nose!) I can see it clearly with none of the distortion in the middle like before. Hopefully as the gas is absorbed and replaced with eye fluid over the next few weeks it will get better and better, more normal. Time will tell, can’t wait till I can get back to working on my shop and around the house. My wife is really embracing her roll as Nurse Ratchet and making sure I’m being a good patient, no bending at the waist, no lifting anything over 15 lbs, eye drops at the prescribed time. With her care I’m going to live to 120!

Saw this a little while ago from Yellowstone, https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/bison-flips-yellowstone-tourist-8-feet-air-rcna572639. Pretty crazy how many of these stories you read about each year. We saw lots of elk and buffalo when we went 15 years ago but stayed far enough away to not have any charge. Also seemed like park rangers showed up immediately anytime an animal was spotted. Like they were hiding there waiting.

I saw that too this morning! When we were in the Lamar Valley there was a Buffalo herd, maybe 10,000 head. Out in the middle of the herd was a group of photographers trying to get a once in a lifetime picture, less than 10 ft away from bulls as big as that one! They had absolutely nothing to protect themselves from those animals! People are stupid!

Just need to sleep on the opposite side from the eye that the surgery was on and don’t ever let my nose point at the sky. The only time I do look up is while I’m putting in the eye drops 4 times a day.
Really happy and relieved that I haven’t had any real pain or discomfort from this entire ordeal. Worst part was the dread and apprehension from when I first noticed the problem and then the wait for the procedure.
Kinda funny, but the closest thing I can compare it to was my first colonoscopy, the thought of that and the dread of the prep was many times worse than the actual procedure!

That’s great to hear.
I’ve had a detached retina repaired in both of my eyes.
I had positional requirements after both surgeries but neither were face down, thankfully.
The gas bubble in my eye after the second surgery took much longer to dissipate than my first procedure.
I know exactly what you mean about being weirded out during the procedure. I distinctly remember being able to hear the doctor and the gas passer talking. I also remember being able to tell that there were several instruments in my eye at the same time!
I‘m not sure how your Macula procedure compares with a retinal repair but you are also right about taking care of yourself.
If anyone out there has been told they might need to be wary of an eye issue I’d recommend getting established with a specialist now.
My first retina problem occurred at 10pm in Detroit. The ERs there might be world class at trauma and gun shots but they ain’t **** at eyes. Believe me it’s a long time until 9am the next day.
My second detachment happened in Phoenix at around 9pm. By 9:30 I had talked to a 24 hour nurse on the hot line phone and spoke with the on call doctor before midnight!
No substitute for peace of mind.

This is a Garage Journal thread, not a Woe is Me thread, so back to our regular program!
On the north end of my shop I want to have a fenced outside storage area. By code the building pad had to extend 5’ past the footings and then slope down to the original elevation. So at the NE corner the slope is 16” high and about 3’ beyond the 5’ and the NW corner is 36” high and over 6’ beyond the required 5’ pad. I know that if I just left that slope inside the storage area it would just be unusable space and also be a constant source of weeds and slowly crumbling down into the space. Talked to my contractor and discussed different options.
What he suggested was a Versa-Lok dry stacked retaining wall with stairs at both ends. Went to the local block place here in Prescott, they manufacture the block right here. Got an estimate of how many block I needed from the block guy, 8 pallets of block. Each pallet has 45 blocks, so a total of 360 blocks needed, at least to start! I got an estimate for the block and also delivered, when they told me how much to deliver it I decided that my retired self could handle that, how hard could it be?!
Got the car trailer hooked up and picked up the first load. These block are solid and weigh 83 lbs each, so a pallet of them is almost 4k lbs. The yard recommended I only load two pallets at a time on my trailer.
I also got two extra pallets so I could unload the block and stack them staged for the block layer. I have a John Deere 2025 4WD tractor with a fork attachment for the loader but it will only pickup and carry 15 of these blocks at a time. So I had to load 15 block by hand onto a pallet and then move it to the job site and then stack those blocks onto another pallet! Took me two days, 4 pallets of blocks each day.
After I got done I figured out I had moved all 360 of those block twice by hand, almost 60,000 lbs, 3 days after my 65th birthday! Strong like Bull, Dumb like Ox!!!

A lot more than a couple! With diesel over $5.00 and wages as high as they are today the delivery fees are insane! I figured I could do it myself!
Delivery charges are out of hand. It costs me more then a weeks rental on a manlight just for delivery.
I had a bid to get out yesterday and needed quotes on a couple platform and one articulating.

Hello pot, meet kettle.lol Your description of the eye procedure made my **** pucker.DUDE! You trying to give me nightmares?!?!
I had Lasik in 2006, 2 days after my procedure we went by boat to a huge fireworks show in downtown Knoxville. I got a tiny piece of plastic in my eye from a firework. Just minor irritation but I had no idea if something had gone wrong with my eye. Went back to eye surgeon, he dyed my eye with fluorescent dye and found a " microplastic sphere" as he called it. Removed it and since I was already on an antibiotic eyedrop I was good to go. Still it scared me to think my eye was not right.

Just curious, did the lasik surgery casue any issues with your depth perception? That's one thing that annoys me about my glasses cause when I go shooting, my depth is off and I end up shooting too low when wearing my glasses. I have to wear contacts when I go shooting if the target is far.
No issues for me, but shooting may be a concern movong forward now that I have glasses again.

Had a Dr visit on Monday, driving up from Prescott to Flagstaff there was over a 1000 ft elevation gain, almost 1500! The first 500-600 ft was uncomfortable….. the next, because of the commercial trucks pushing us up the hill, was around 700 ft was so painful I didn’t think I’d survive! I try not to even take aspirin, much to my wife’s dismay, so when I say I’m in agony, she is concerned! After sitting at that elevation for about 45 minutes we were able to continue up to Flagstaff (without me whimpering like a stray dog!) I’ve never felt pain like that, thought I was gonna puke! This eye **** is serious! But on Monday my Dr said that everything is looking good, my eye is healing as good or better than even he was expecting! So very happy about that! So, today we got busy with shop stuff!
Pressure changes are real! I flew to Austin a couple years ago with a sinus issue from all the pollen in east TN. As we got to pur cruising altitude, everything was fine, but as we began our descent, the pressure in my head could not equalize and it felt like my skull was being pulled apart. Probably one of the worst flights I have ever been on.

Hwy 89 to Ash Fork then I-40 to Flag. Ash Fork hill climbs 1500 ft in about 5 miles so it was the challenge. Pulled off about 1/2 way up at an exit and had to sit there for almost 45 minutes till the pain lessened, then should have stopped again before the summit but the frickin truckers make it deadly to stop on the side of that hill so we went over the summit and pulled over at the next exit, ironically Devil Dog Road! That was the tough one. My post-op instructions said to sit at every 500 ft for 15 minutes to allow the eye to equalize, took over 45 minutes before I could even think straight! Thankfully I don’t have to go back till a month later and by then the gas in my eye should be completely gone!

Yesterday my contractor that built my shop sent his son over and we got the footing dug for the Versa-Lok retaining wall.
This morning bright and early the crew doing the wall got busy and started the wall. It’s looking great, I’m thinking I got the right guys on this job. They worked on it all day until the skies opened up and we all got drenched! They’ll be back @ 7:00 AM tomorrow, once the first row gets done it’ll go fast!

No ****! I got so hot unloading more block I had to sit under a tree in the shade and drink ice tea for almost an hour! Good thing I stayed out of their way so the progress kept going!Good thing they waited till it got as hot as it gets up here. It’s important to work up a good sweat
