Shot blasting was fun with a stopped up vacuum and a wounded shop blaster.

Every time I get rental equipment from the green place I end up working on it. Before it works "As intended"



Vacuum filters the third one was the worst it had a rag sucked into it. Sorry no pic. I was covered in dust and not taking pics.

The shot blaster had sintered the shot onto the control collar part 3 and the impeller part 7 at first restricting the flow of shot and ultimately stopping it completely.

That led to an exhilarating romp disassembling things I had never seen before...

I found the manual online...

Utilizing my mechanic skills I removed this from the unit with a hammer and a center punch. Without breaking the control collar.

Quarter for scale.

The control collar is also how the shot is "timed" to adjust the pattern.

The collar was 90 degrees "retarded" resulting in the heavy right side pattern seen in the pics.

Once the collar was "advanced" the pattern was even.

My wife ran the blaster and I was shot wrangler/hopper filler.

We used 50 pounds of shot to blast 1600 square feet.

Originally I was told it required 50 pounds per 250 square feet or 320 pounds.

I got 3 glad they will take the 2 back I didn't open and even happier I didn't get 6 as suggested.

well the shop floor is blasted


I returned the rental items.
I handed the manager the zip-lock bag full of melted shot. (see previous post)

He acted shocked as I explained the issues with the equipment.
But was most likely glad I was not screaming at him about the situation.
He explained they are supposed to test the equipment before it is sent out.

He gladly refunded the cost of the unused shot and took $50 off the rental fee.

The tech that repairs the equipment asked if everything was OK.
I told him the equipment performed less than optimally and the manger handed him the bag of melted shot.
He was bewildered.

I was stressed about the working time to apply the primer, the measuring and mixing process with sticky uncured product all over everything was not helping the situation either.

Spreading 4 gallons and back-rolling 800 square feet in 12 minutes!

Wife and I did manage to get the primer onto the concrete and it looks good.



Tomorrow color and flakes then topcoat.

The floor epoxy was very stressful. The advertised working time was way shorter than advertised.

3 gallons of color and 20 lbs of Domino flakes



Another 3 gallons of color and 20 lbs of flakes


Then 3 gallons of UV stable clear



3 gallons was not enough clear which required a 50 minute trip to the Sherwin Williams Industrial coating store and 50 minutes back to the house.

I also stopped by Home Depot to pick up 2 new 18,000 BTU dustless mini-split units.



Wife and I then applied 3 more gallons of clear.


Now we wait...
