Great advice - went last friday and filled up 2x2gal sprayer bottles. Went through that in no time so I'll head there tomorrow first thing for another refill, then back again for another refill if they'll let me.
New clutch on the urquattro? I've been told I need one too (and seen occasional weird slipping under full boost in 4th and 5th gears). Working through Berg, we found it is hard to get OE parts as the US spec clutch was different than the cars built for europe. I found some alternatives (South Bend, etc) but Berg was really recommending I keep it original. Sachs can supply the clutch itself and said they can rebuild the pressure plate if I supply my current one or another used one. I haven't had much luck finding a used one and I don't want my car sitting on the lift for 1+ months while the pressure plate takes a trip to Germany. So that's been paused for a bit. Maybe later this winter I dig in?
In the meantime I've started digging into other car projects that I've been sitting on for over 10 years. When I rebuilt the '72, the Hella 110 fog lights used for the through the grill (TTG) setup was no longer available. So I sourced the factory mounts and then adapted some PIAA fogs that were close. A few years later, they started reproducing the Hella 110's so I picked up a set. That was back in 2016. Right now I've got the wiring done and fitted them - waiting on yellow tinted bulbs before I button it all back up. The battery had to come out and front bumper had to come off, along with a few other things, to get access to the mounts and wiring. Hella 110 on the left (mounted) with the slightly larger and not period correct PIAA on the right. I'm reusing all the PIAA switching and relays that I put in too.
When I installed the '96 3.6L motor, I knew it was OBD2 and that game me some cool options. Some people hook up a light that will flash diagnostic codes. But I wanted to take it a step further and wire in an OBD2 plug. I haven't found anyone that has done this but I think I figured it out - takes 6 wires spliced into the ECU harness, which is under the driver's seat. I stalled on that project as I didn't have an OBD2 scanner that I knew would work well on Porsches - until a few weeks ago. I bought a scanner to reset the service light on my 992 and avoid some of the dealer tax on basic stuff like oil changes. So with most of the pieces in place I am now going to tackle that. The OBD2 pigtail needs to be mounted so that's step 1, which is now complete thanks to a model I built and my 3d printer. Rev2.1 will be final I think - you can see parts of revision 1.x on the side too. ABS and ASA plastic should be fine and this was my first foray into melting nutserts into place with a soldering iron. The plug is at a slight angle upward to make it easier to attach the scanner. More to come as I figure out a safe way to splice into the main ECU harness and not destroy anything.
