Help with Steel Barn Siding

Hi folks,
I have a question about putting up steel siding on my barn.

I'm going to be using the standard 3 rib panels, and the question I have relates to the ribs and how they line up with corners on the barn.

After all the steel siding is up, I'm going to need to install corner trims. Those corners come with bend profiles that go over ribs, but what happens if the bend profile of the corner trim lands on top of a rib on one of the panels? How does one prevent having to have custom pieces made and the different corners of the barn all having different corner trims?

You may need to compensate for that when you install the first panel so when you get to the end of the wall it works out to where it doesn’t cause an issue. When I built mine 40x42 it worked out fine.

You might need to trim the 1st piece. Do the math and you’ll figure it out.

Just do the math. Having the materials on the job will be helpful but any literature with dimensions will do.
Usually the panels net 36" of coverage and the major ribs are 9" apart.
If you're math tells you that it just happens to end up with a rib at the corners screwing flange and you can't just start within the limits of starting corner you might have to trim a couple of inches off of the starter panel on the side of the corner.
Generally the std 6" corner has enough space to accommodate this concern.

I guess if a window or door happens to end up in a bad place, there's no getting around having something custom made, but at least I can take care of the corners..

When I did the front of my building I had two overhead doors to deal with. One was 18x12 and the other was 10x8. In that situation, I had to start measuring from the doors taking into account where the doors and the corner trim would up relating to the siding. It worked out well.

Maybe I got lucky.

Measure, measure and measure again.

You will need to do some layout. The corner trim may or may not cover a rib. There should be no issues with windows and doors. The J trim will work for all conditions. You will have the same issue on the roof. You will need to layout so that the rake metal does not land on a rib. Remember to use buytal tape under the rake lap.
