Because all the comments so far have been opinions from people that have never used it. I was asking for opinions from those that have.

My objection to the Jackrod--I think them's fighting words in Britain--is that I like to have two or more points of support when I'm crawling under a rig.

Not all floor jacks are created equal, normally when you jack up a car it's to get under it and work on it pushing/pulling/twisting things makes it move on the jack, used on blacktop the jack can sink on on side etc.

It's used for a quick drain plug removal during a mobile oil change service since its dangerous to get under a car supported by only a jack. I already have this system that combines a jack and jack stand for longer jobs:



but this seems ideal for something quick you have to do undercar.

I'm not sure I would trust it, I saw a guy loose his legs when the truck shifted & came off the not so secure stands. Trusting a jack, & an aluminum one at that, I've bent a few of them sideways no thanks.

I think the time savings afforded by this device would be substantially less than the time lost should anything go awry. We've all seen cars fall off of 2 post shop lifts, so anything can happen. Plus, a pair of quality jack stands costs less than this device does. To me, this device is like standing on one leg versus two.

I have one. We use it on the trail. It’s nice to have a solid connection holding a vehicle up.
that said, we usually have a tire laying under the frame/differential as well.

I have one because it looked interesting and it was on sale - I don't remember how much it was for (yes, it was some time ago).

As with many GJ members, I got it, but haven't gotten around to using it yet. I'm thinking if/when I do, I'll probably use a secondary support at least initially until I can see how stable/strong it is.

I'd trust the stand in your second picture long before I would the other. I also don't seehow it would be any faster than what you already have.

I get it. And do what you want. For me personally, when I change oil, I like to be on a creeper. And my right arm and head are under the car. My head is typically directly below the rocker panel, which is one of the stiffest parts of the car. So yeah, I stick a jack stand there. And if the ratchet fails on that jack stand, the base is usually taller than my head is.

Anyway, that's the way I think about it.

It doesn't. The jack does. When jacking with a floor jack, the body of the jack has to nice relative to the lifting pad. Often something obstructs the jack or as the vehicle starts to tilt away from you the jack has to lean sideways or the vehicle has to slip. The traditional jack stand never has to move, and shouldn't, from the time the vehicle touches it until the weight is fully on it.

Maybe this thing could be trusted in a garage on a smooth, clean floor. Mine get used in far too many situations that aren't that. It's a nice concept though.

I use ramps to change my oil and I limit how far under the car I go. I use jack stands if I was going to go under the car for any actual repairs. I change tires without jack stands it's just a tire change and I put the spare under the middle frame of the car in case the jack fails so I dont crush the wheel hubs.

Huh? No!

I’m in my 60s and change oil on a narrow broken asphalt driveway. I jack one side, set the stand, then move to the other side. Jack and second stand stay on that side. My guess is 90 seconds and this isn’t an F1 pit stop.

He doesn't show actually getting them put in place and letting the jack down on it so I doubt it's actually 5 seconds and if it takes you 5 minutes to set up a jack stand, you're doing something wrong

No you wouldn’t. You’d do what people do in deserts or inner cities. You yank the wheels off and use them as cribbing.

I'm trying to think of a way that could happen without a very high level of incompetence.

So that begs the question what exactly did happen? Was the vehicle on level ground with the parking brake and/or wheels chocked?

Never been, but aren’t those off road trucks & sxs lifted enough to get under them without a jack? And even if not, using something like this in an off road setting — ie, soft unstable ground — seems risky.

The only real use case I can see is for jacking up a car from the pinch welds - if your jack is at the lifting point, there’s often no room to place a jack stand.

Personally, I think a Unijack or something similar is a better idea:

risky? I think you may not understand what piece of equipment that the op is speaking about.

this device goes between the ram and the lower cross brace of a floorjack, so that hydraulic fluid and a seal are not the only thing holding a vehicle up.

in combination with this device. Way better feeling than a hi lift jack.

Would I like to be able to make all repairs in a sterile shop environment with flat concrete and a lift and or jackstands? absolutely.

plus, sxs are extremely frail in the suspension/steering as are the new model Broncos, tie rods snap like a pencil.
sometimes they are blocking the trail and a lot, not all, but a whole lot of people who just buy off-road vehicles rather than build/modify are ill equipped.

I throw out KOH as an open invitation as it’s a set date and I’ll be there again next year. It’s like burning man but for gearheads. Hammertown gets set up with vendors, food etc. Chocolate Thunder gets a bit wild at night but it’s a couple miles away from camp so those shenanigans are avoidable.

With me next year I’ll have my “street legal” first gen Bronco and a trophy truck or my ultra 4 4400 if I can finish it and do a few shake downs before then.

I have one and use it for oil changes and brake jobs. Works great

Understanding all sides of the argument: there are times when this is acceptable, situations when a jack stand is appropriate and occasions when using this is ok with a wheel laying under the vehicle. I have been using a cut piece of 4x4 with my Daytona jack since long before I knew these were available. Obviously, I'm not doing major under the vehicle surgery where my body is in the line of fire while rocking the vehicle but I'm not dragging out jack stands to do brakes when I can leave the car on the jack and push the wheel under it. IMO it's highly unlikely that in a garage, after you've verified that everything is stable, that you would roll your car off of a floor jack while loosening the oil drain plug. Just my .02

If these were half the price I'd probably buy one but for now I'll stick with my 4x4.
