Astro nano socket back holder for ratcheting wrench use

Picked up some 3/8" Asto nano sockets that I plan to use with my VIM 17mm ratcheting wrench head. Problem is, I need the little backer adapter to keep the socket on the wrench if I turn the wrench upside down. Olsa makes an adapter set but it's a little pricey for what it is. I saw a guy on here selling what looked to be 3d printed plastic ones but I couldn't get a response from him. Anyone know of a cheaper option? $26.87 for 3, that is a approx $9.00 a piece. If you buy it from their tiktok shop, whatever that is, you get free shipping but the price is a bit over $33.00, again not a bad price for 3.

How much do you think it would be ordering from someone 3D printing in plastic with shipping? If they are plastic they will just break...

couldn't you use basically any add-on socket spinner to accomplish this? good idea, I need one now.

Who makes the 3/8 and 1/2" with the thinnest disc?

You can always put a piece of masking tape over the faceted end of the nano socket.

Isn’t there some kind of ratcheting knob that would sort of work?

I'm assuming that the reason for this set is because of the shallow height. Most spinner knobs are kinda tall, defeating the purpose.

I can make you one but it'll cost ya about $500. Maybe just buy the one that's easy to buy

That's what I did. I used an Ernst rail clip and cut down the rail grip part as best I could. It isn't perfectly out of the way, but it worked for what I needed.

I realize there's some cost to this, perhaps not much more than the adapters mentioned above, but any reason you aren't using the Nano ratchet that is intended to be used with these sockets? 783105 or 78318.

Look for "low profile socket adapter" on Amazon. There are a variety of options.

When you're not using them as adapters, they don't even need to be especially good or tough.

I have some, they only retain with magnets. Weak ones. Which means the adapter reatins to the wrench, but nothing is holding onto the socket, as in nothing at all

Bummer. I didn't realize. There are other versions from OEM Tools and Titan, but they're not quite so low-profile:

Also, in-line with the idea of just using a socket rail clip, I spotted some that look particularly close:



Those particular ones are called "Reniteco 10-PC ABS Socket Organizer Clips for 3/8 inch Drive Aluminum Magnetic Sockets Storage" on Amazon, but I doubt it's the only game in town.

As you guys keep searching for the perfect mousetrap, keep in mind these sockets are impacts and don't have recesses in the female square drive to mate with a ball. As is commonly the case with impact sockets, there is a hole for pin retention but it's quite large and causes more play with any ball retention method.

I can't think of a better solution than just 3d printing something that's a pretty snug fit and has flexible tabs to hold tension in the socket. I think I could draw something like that up pretty easily.

Probably the thinnest is a metal socket rail clip, but they are sharp and springy. I like these specific socket rail clips. They add 2mm to the height. $15 for 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 rails at the moment.
