Contacted Amazon. In 30 seconds they did what Ego wouldn't and shipped another saw (probably should have started there....).
Sooooooo, guess we are going to try Ego chainsaw #4 and see what happens. I still really, really want it to work. Its such a cool unit and I already have the batteries...
Assuming Amazon won't handle it then yes. As a last resort my card issuer will handle it. Ultimately I'm not hugely concerned with getting a replacement unit and/or refund, lots of paths there.
Mostly just pissed that Ego refuses to stand behind their product. I really, really wanted to like...
Bought it from Ego via their Amazon store. Going to contact Amazon and see if they will help but ultimately Ego was the seller so will have to see. Amazon tends to be pretty good about helping folks out but possible they just point me to the seller.
Interesting, had not seen that. Of course I don't own any XGT tools, so would be a significant investment in batteries, charger, etc; But good to know they at least have what I'm looking for. Thanks for the heads up!
Yeah, card issuer will take care of the problem. Just ***** to have to go that way. As a product manager it really bothers me when folks won't stand behind the stuff they put out on the market. Shouldn't be on me to run around trying to fix their poor quality control.
Yeah, I have gone through 3 of these things because I keep telling myself its a fluke. But after 3 dead saws you gotta accept the pattern forming there.
I wouldn't worry so much if they actually cared. But they really just don't. All I can do is talk to low level customer support folk who...
Our snowflake fuel here in California does terrible things to small gas engines. I'm just tired of rebuilding carbs and replacing gas lines. I would love to pair my small electric Makita chainsaw with a larger gas one but the maintenance just drives me nuts.
One of the reasons I was willing to give them another shot was that my other Ego tools have been fantastic. Mower, blower, etc have all been flawless. Figured it had to be just bad luck on the chainsaws but after 3 of them thats too much of a pattern.....
Sigh....if Makita made an 18" saw I would buy it in a second. Really wanted the longer bar but at this point looks like I might need to settle for less..
They just contacted and want me to drive over an hour to service this thing. They closed the case so I can't even email them back to pound sand. Going to report it as fraud and get my money back, really no patience for these folks.
3 different chainsaws, none of them lasted more than an hour, oh my....
Bought a 16" Ego chainsaw a couple years back. Less than an hour of light use and it stopped functioning. Replaced under warranty.
Second one also died in less than an hour of light use. Ego refused to talk to me and I ate...
Rather than a cellular setup would just get Starlink for internet then run whatever cloud based camera setup you want. Get high speed wifi out there as an added bonus.
My litmus test for privacy was "Walk out the back door naked, at 2am, and shoot off the shotgun (without getting arrested)...."
Had to buy over 200 acres to get close to what I wanted (which is not a cheap proposition in California) but IMO can't put a price on privacy.
Been really happy with my Ego mower. Their chainsaws are hot garbage (blew up 2 of them in 10 minutes) but the rest of their tools, including the mower have been really good.
I have a BeadBuster XB-450 that I'm really happy with. Have done a couple ATV tires with it so far without trouble. Runs about $120 on Amazon.

Insteon was an interesting deal. I worked with some of those guys 4-5 years ago and always found the whole thing to be a bit odd. They actually had some really nice hardware. But the software platform was proprietary, and the whole company was owned by a larger entity that I would best describe...
Pool solar is great. I flipped mine on way early this year for shits and grins. Water temp went from 58 to 75 within a few days (in March....). Usually turn it on in early May but California told Winter to simply not exist this year. Come summer time I have to set the thermostat or the water...
Going to second this. Had a really nice Toro mower but was thrilled the day it died and could replace with a battery unit. Their chainsaws are functionally useless but all the other Ego tools, including my self propelled mower, have been rock solid.
Part of the reason I'm taking notes here is, as you say, the plans are terrible. Being able to see in pictures how all the pieces go together is super useful. Right now I just have a pile of parts (with bushes stacked on top to keep the cows from walking on it...lol...)
