    Stolen tools in Topeka

Not sure if this is the most appropriate forum, but it seemed the best. We had our mobile tool kit stolen out of our building at work in Topeka (BNSF Railway). Suspect someone at our workplace, but it could be one of more than 1000 people. They had to know where to find it. Our shop is gated...

    Got a 2-9/16" crowsfoot?

Obviously a 3/4" drive 2-9/16" crowsfoot wrench isn't in stock everywhere. I cut two profiles from 1/4" plate on the flowjet, jigged them up and plug welded the holes. I've got some hard to reach Dixon Valve dry break connectors to tighten up. Hope yall enjoy. Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 2

    Dividing Head Mystery - Stumped

Gents - I was cleaning out a cabinet at work to reorganize our milling machine accessories and found a small, semi-rusty dividing head. It's probably capable of 6" diameter work? I've been cleaning it up to use again (our only dividing head), but realized there was no chuck. I've searched the...

What bearing is this? (belt grinder)

Awhile back I proclaimed an uncalculated "I ****" moment, and was promptly cursed. I broke a bearing housing during disassembly of a belt grinder that was getting tossed at work. In the process, I pulled the bearings to replace them and they're quite strange. What type of bearings are these...

    I **** -- Free Belt Grinder

Recently the safety people came through our shop and informed us that our belt grinder did not have appropriate guarding. So........ the shop foreman said he was going to scrap it -- that's when I got to take it home, including all the belts we had for it! And wait, yes.... you see...

We've got some cash-money at work to get an iron worker. We're looking at the following: Peddinghaus PeddiCat 1 Baileigh SW-62 We're not a production shop. This will be for one-off custom work, or small batches, maybe 10-20 units. Generally we'll make test fixtures or instrumentation...

    Tables like Chipotle Restaurants?

I was eating at Chipotle the other night and took a good look at their tabletops. They're about an 0.030"-ish stainless top laminated with very thick plywood. (Maybe even two layers of plywood?). The edges are pretty much perfectly beveled and rounded over. I wish I took a pic, but next time...

    Props to Proto

I've got a 1/4" drive dial torque wrench that's been needing a case for awhile. So I ring up the folks in Conyers and ask them what a case would cost me. The woman says, "Oh we can just send you one. What's your address?" Sahweet! :bounce: I explained to her that it was a 1/4 dial type, but...

    Lacquer Stick test on wrenches

Finally got to ordering some Lacquer Sticks from Mcmaster. I decided to test it out on a few wrenches from the pile: Kobalt, Cman, Gearwrench, and SK-Wayne. The Kobalt took the paint the best, then the Cman, SK, and finally GearWrench. It seemed like the SK and GW grooves were too tiny to...

Today's McMaster Gamble - Tillman Gloves

Saw what looked like Tillman 1490's on McMaster's catalog, so I called McM to confirm. Cust service rep "couldn't look up the manufacturer" (or wouldnt):headscrat , so I added them to the end of my order yesterday. Sure thing, they were the Tillman 1490's. Price was 24.95 per pair. However...

    D-rail's Press Brake (in progress)

After mulling about and reading how others did their press brakes, I decided to launch off on my own. This thread is a progression of the build, but most of the parts are already made. This press brake is designed to fit in the carriage of my Carolina 20 ton shop press. I started out with a...

    Milling a v-groove less than 90deg?

I'm in the process of building a 16" press brake, and it's coming time to do something about the dies. The four-way dies are pretty expensive, but I'm not so keen on going the route of angle steel to form the rest of the die. I've got access to a milling machine at work, and thought I could...

    Used Lathes: Clausing vs Jet

I've been seriously considering a lathe and found a Clausing (110 VAC) 12x36 with some tooling and a bench for $1k, and a Jet (110 VAC) 12x24 for $750. The Jet is a lot closer to me, and appears to be in hobby use. I know the Clausing has Timken Taper Roller bearings. What is the general...

    T-Handle Racks?

Have any of you all made your own racks for t-handle hex keys? I've got a bunch of loose Elkinds and some no-names that came in a crappy import plastic rack (No, not the nice one you can get from Grainger). Searching through Google shopping didn't yield any good t-handle racks, so now I'm...
