2024 Edition: What Would You Buy From Snap-on If You Had The Student Discount?

Since I don't think they sell the eye candy calendars anymore. I'd get a baseball hat and an XL T-shirt.

Question For You With Painted Floors

Mine will show dirt as I park all winter and work on it. Drains help. The thing is that it's easy to clean with water and a squeegee, sometimes a mop if pretty messy. Accidentally spill a quart of oil on the floor takes about a minute to clean up. A few scratches from the sleds sliding around...

Where do you store your gas cans?

About 40 gallons of storage gas is in the utility shed. I also have about 15 gallons with a hose nozzle that sits in a detached garage for easy fills for the toys. No gas is stored in the attached garage. I am not going to start worrying about how much is stored in the tanks of the vehicles. I...

    Vehicle Wash Bay

I am just suggesting for you to check local codes regarding grey water runoff and use in established structures before committing to building it. Especially in New York. But you do you.

    Vehicle Wash Bay

I would check local codes for something like that before spending a lot of resources. I highly doubt that a "civilized" state such as New York would let a formal grey water system just runoff and seep into the ground.

    Mr. Heater Big Maxx

Yep, common deal with those heaters. I now clean mine out a couple times a year as a precaution as I set it to hold 50 degrees when not out there. Takes 2 minutes and it hasn't let me down since.

Amazon Deals on New Retail Items - Post them!

It has what it states...one side of the tool is sized stamped in SAE and the other side is stamped in Metric. If they are going thru the trouble to add it to the wrench, they might as well market it.

    Workbench top ideas?

I used some stylish laminate on top of wood, blocked the sides a tad and added a thick self-leveling resin to the whole top (think the product is called Bar top) I was a rookie installer so It has a couple of bubbles and streaks but it looks nice and has held up very well.

Before I get an inspection today, big TV over Wood burning fireplace insert okay?

Reality is, it's difficult to watch anything with family or friends on a personal device. A TV is a monitor that can deliver all sorts of content, it does not have to equate to watching CBSNBCABC. Can we get a review on how that 65" cell phone is working out for you?

    New lawn mower

I use a $20 self-propelled that I picked up a half a dozen years ago at a garage sale. It does just the backyard where the dogs hang out ~4500sf. Smokes like it just had ***, but that keeps the mosquitos away! I have another one in the shed if I cannot fix reasonably. Plenty of cheap ones out...

Are Fluke Multimeters Worth The Substantial Extra Money?

I have a Fluke 77 from tech school in 1988. It's a bench queen and used very little. For what I need in a meter these days I have a couple cheaper, smaller and lighter Gardners. They work fine.

    why I prefer to diy

Around here, you still get inspected regardless of who does the work. DIY is great, but you could be a screw up just like the stoner you hired to do the plumbing.

Pepper spray burglar alarm to protect shop?

Several years ago, a friend of mine had his ragtop jeep broke into several times at work, targeting the stereo. It had an alarm, but the neighborhood where he worked, this didn't seem to matter much. He chose to put razor blades right where the disconnect was on the back side of the stereo...

Help me reinforce my mailbox post

I gave up on the reinforcement and decided to just add a 3/4" threaded plastic sleeve under the box itself to act like a shear pin. When the box gets hit, the sleeve breaks and the box falls off, but the post remains intact. Replace the plastic sleeve and you are back in business. Won't help...

    Toilet facilities during build

Why rent? Just buy a porta john outright and sell it when done. I bought one new for $800 and sold it for $500. That was 2008 so YMMV. This was the company I bought mine from https://www.satelliteindustries.com/products/portable_restrooms.php
