Shed/workshop insulation and air conditioning questions

Ok so here is my latest and greatest. Install this corning 1/2" foam in between the trusses, double stacked, to get R6. Seal the edges with good stuff expansion foam. This will give me the R-5 minimum I need to keep condensation from building on the roof sheathing. Install this R-13 batt...

    Cheapsheds.com Shed plans reviewed

The Shed turned out great. I only needed a few more 2x4 studs than he had listed in the plans. Now that I'm done with the basic build I give the plans 5 out of 5 stars. If you haven't ever built something like this, this is a good direction to go in. His Youtube videos are good too. It cost me...

Forget Shoplights!! LED strips inside of the Ceiling Joists

I was going off of what the cut sheet for the power supply stated. it states 6.8A typical which i used for my breaker calculation. http://www.meanwell.com/search/LRS-350/LRS-350-spec.pdf I have never worked with Watts before and I was misunderstanding the conversion from DC-AC and vise versa. I...

Forget Shoplights!! LED strips inside of the Ceiling Joists

Thanks for the chart, I see what you are saying now about the angle. I really researched everything I could find and I did look at the possibility of using that setup too with the LED bulbs they make. I came up with my lumen requirements from this calculation...

Forget Shoplights!! LED strips inside of the Ceiling Joists

You derated the LEDs to 50%? Why not derate it to 30% or 20%, heck lets uprate it to 110%, maybe they get a little extra power from all the love I put into my build. Lol. I'm kidding with you. You were vary careful at performing all the math correctly and collecting all the other data, yet...

Give me a week. I'll post a lot of data about the lighting. I'll download an app and get a few readings.

Shed/workshop insulation and air conditioning questions

I think I am goin with 1/2 foam board that would give me the R-5 that I need. I will seal the outer edges with expanding foam. Then put the R-13 fiberglass insulation over the top of that. As you said, that would give me the R-5 that I need to keep the cooler indoor temp from reaching the...

Excellent explanation. So the heating problems that someone would have would be: 1. Wire size too small for the application causing high resistance which would cause the supply wires to heat up. 2. Applying a higher voltage than what the LED circuit requires. Example: applying 24 volts to a 12...

Forget Shoplights!! LED strips inside of the Ceiling Joists

I see the confusion in my statement. I was mixing up too different things I was trying to say and the example I used is incorrect. I was trying to get across the idea that using a wire that is too small would cause the voltage to drop below the LED circuits operating voltage. Let's say I had...

Forget Shoplights!! LED strips inside of the Ceiling Joists

Yes I am. The max draw of each power supply was almost 7 amps. times 2 power supplies is 14 amps and a 20 amp breaker leaves my 20% cushion. I know that most outlets are pushed to the 20 amp limits most of the time, I just wanted to build according to code.

I am guessing that you are talking about the LED bulb replacements for T-8 fluorescent fixtures? There are 2 types that I know of: 1. one you have to remove the ballast from the fixture and wire 120v ac directly to the bulb. This kind has a DC volt power supply built into the bulbs. 2. The other...

Forget Shoplights!! LED strips inside of the Ceiling Joists

I think you have. It's a switch from 120 volt AC to 12 volts DC. Its the same electricity, just in a different form. A little youtube and google research goes a long way. I would only suggest installing something like this if you fully understand how DC voltage works and how the LEDs work. When...

Forget Shoplights!! LED strips inside of the Ceiling Joists

About the Heat The problem I have seen with LEDs getting hot is using a supply voltage that is too low. This happens a lot in automotive applications. If the LED is rated for 12 volts and is only getting 9 volts, it compensates for that low voltage by drawing more amps. If a car electrical...

Excellent idea. I saw another cool idea where a guy mounted the lights in some roof flashing L-channel is hung it from the ceiling on chains.
