Show us Your Vintage Bench Grinders!!!!

I don't know much about it's age. No maker's mark but reminds me of the old Millers Falls hand crank drill presses. Very similar mounting and wooden handle. It spins too slow compared to modern grinders, very cool though.

I would recommend one of these for woodworking. It's the same design and only $280. http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/2003516/3008/WoodRiver-Pattern-Maker's-Vise.aspx or http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/patternmakerswoodworkingvise.aspx Spend the money you save on a good dovetail saw:thumbup:

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Nice... My guess is that the grandfather made it early in his career, dating the vise to the late 20's. Joe, He said Reed & Barton, not Reed Mfg. See http://www.reedandbarton.com/

Very cool vise. In the old days, young machinist had to make something to show their abilities. I have a cool miniature hammer from my great great grandfather or uncle (I wrote it down but forget now). You should ask the previous owner how he came about it. Looks well made and one of a kind.

Great information on the Yost Co. I believe that Gilmore Yost worked for Emmert Mfg. Co. before going on his own. In Aug. 1902, he signed as a witness on one of Joseph Emmert's patents. See http://www.mprime.com/Emmert/yost.htm

    Oldest known Parker Vise

Thanks Zoom. Do you think that if it has the 6-20-1854 but not any of the 1867 patent dates, then perhaps manufactured between those dates? On the No. 172 with 4 dates, one patent is for a swivel base attachment (Dec 10 1867) which makes me think showing patents were prestige and...

Is it a vise? Is it a Clamp?

Looks like parts of a vise reused and made into a clamp. Typically a vise has mounting hardware to fix it to a bench and a clamp does not. Seems a little heavy for a guitar maker. Very nice.....

    Oldest known Parker Vise

Hey Guys, Who has a really old Parker Vise? The USA movement was around 1915. This is when manufactured goods began to say USA. Prior to that USA was not cast into many products. I think it would have to be before 1900. Anybody have one?

    Stupid VISE Question

Regarding the broken 4 1/2 Wilton: Any time the screw is above the beam then its a sign lessor quality. Similar to Sears good, better and best..... all from the same company. Not that its a bad vise, just not made for the strongest clamping power. Regarding the broken Columbian: It's hard for...
