    The overplanned shop/garage

I'll do the VOM check and call the power company to see if they can come out for free and check it, too. In the meantime, I've attached a couple of photos of design features I'm very pleased to have thought of.

    Need garage opener gurus advice.

Apologizing in advance if this is a thread hijack, but . . . How would I disable the remote receiving part of my garage door opener? Would cutting off the little wire antenna do it? I still want to be able to run the opener from the doorbell button, just not via a remote. Thanks,

Noisy Air Compressor - any way to quiet it down?

Building an enclosure works, and it's pretty cheap. A simple frame made of 2x4 boards covered with 2'x4' acoustic ceiling tiles (made for hanging grid ceilings) is a good start - put the "pretty" side of each panel toward the compressor - and don't forget the floor and top of the box. Two...

    The overplanned shop/garage

Many replies to many responses (thanks!): LINE VOLTAGE (Bradley Miller). Is what you're suggesting a simple matter of plugging a VOM into the outlet, or do I need some specialty device to monitor voltage over time? STARTUP DRAW (bmwpower). "Plasma cutter do not have the same startup draw as...

    The overplanned shop/garage

I wanted a 24' x 24' (2nd shop/garage) built when we moved here year before last, but the setback from the property line required that its depth be decreased to 22'. In the several months it took to get permits, I planned and replanned the siting, electrical, layout, etc. for hours on end...

    Supplied-air respirator

Do a search on this board for HobbyAir - a thread from my post about alternatives is a few weeks back.

Airline layout - submitted for approval

I presume you're referring to the TPTools site - they cite "easy to damage" and "soldered joint" failure as reasons to avoid copper, but they seem to be targeting the pro shops with their remarks. Another thread posted above - http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=480039 - suggests...

What kinda lift do you have?

I've mentioned it here before, but I can't complain at all about my Bend-Pak LR-60. Stable, reliable, under $1300 when I bought mine 10-15 years ago and not much more than that now. If you have a 8' ceiling, this is the ONLY way to go.

    Cheaper than HobbyAir?

It's hard for me to justify $135 per paint job ($400+ expense divided by 3 paintjobs planned), so is there a cheaper way to get "fresh air" while painting? Here's a link to the HobbyAir product: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/topages/hobbyair.php Could the output of a standard portable...

Airline layout - submitted for approval

Okay, taking all the input so far into account, here's my REVISED PLAN (with yellow showing the garage/shop walls - roof removed): The highpoint of the tubing is at the left end of the overhead door run (condensed water would run both directions from there, back to the tank and to the...

Airline layout - submitted for approval

The only wall units I've seen (HF is where I start) combine an air filter, water separator, and "oiler" with a regulator. I don't want to introduce oil upstream of Reel 1 (the hose I'll be using to spray paint with). I can just put a few drops in each tool the first time I use it each day...

Airline layout - submitted for approval

The horizontal pipes (from L to L to L, 40' altogether) are a couple inches below ceiling level (~8' above the floor). If I add a water separator, I presume it should be between the compressor and first vertical pipe (in other words, down where I can reach it and before hose reel 1 which the...

    Another Bad HF Tool Experience

I resemble that remark! And I keep a roll of blue paper towels on both the South and North walls so I don't have to walk 20' to get one! :lol_hitti

Airline layout - submitted for approval

Here's the plan for my shop/garage: I use a disposable inline filter right before the HVLP spray gun - do I need a water separator on the wall in addition? :dunno: Any other problems evident? Thanks,

    New Pole Building Prices?

Not quite apples to apples, but we got such a good deal and had such a good experience, I have to give props to our garage/shop builder - http://www.garagesetc.com (Seattle-Tacoma area). We got a 24' x 22' x 8' conventional stick-built with slab and footings (concrete had anti-crack and...

    Riding lawnmowers

I've used this for the past five years: It's a Scotts (built by J.Deere, same as their Sabre model) "2046" - 20 horsepower V-twin B&S Intek with a 46 inch 3-blade deck - and it's been very reliable and super strong (even in tall wet grass). We converted ours to a mulcher and would recommend...

Well, I guess I'll show you mine!

How's the MBenz running? I haven't driven my '72 since I shot it with primer almost two years ago . . . it's now #3 in the queque of projects in my new shop. This is a photo of it in the old (built in 1932) shop. The checkmarks on this page document where I am in the to-do list (the "photos"...

Hobart Handler 140 or MillerMatic 135

What amp circuit breaker are you guys with 110v welders using? xx135 and xx140 are supposed to work on a 20 amp circuit, but my Hobart AirForce 250A (plasma cutter) - which is also supposed to work on a 110v 20 amp circuit - has starting tripping the 20 amp breakers in my subpanel (same results...

Storing tires and wheels from wall in garage

A tire store owner told me that: 1) tires mounted on wheels should always be stored vertically - on their tread (unless you have a way to hang them by the wheel's center hole), and 2) unmounted tires should always be stacked horizontally - on one sidewall of the tire.
