    e-stop addition to old equipment

So I just got a benchtop lathe that is about 30yrs old. From the bit I do remember from my machining class ~30yrs ago on a machine that was probably from the 50's they had a mechanical stop (foot brake). The lathe is nothing special, price was right and being able to make a bushing or spacer...

    Bulky hand /power tools

I am going through a pretty significant clean up and reorganization. This time I am bound and determined to figure out a better way for storing a few things that I have never found a good home for. When there is no home for something it just bounces from place to place and that is exactly what...

    Loft or Mezz Flooring

Currently the floor is just an OSB Subfloor which has been fine for storage purposes but I seem to be running out of room on the ground floor and doing more up in the loft. I put my Plasma Table up there a couple years ago and "protected" things with some welding blankets. They are starting to...

    Laser Engravers & Cutters

Okay - I have the plasma table, the kid has a 3D printer, and now it is either a Router or a Laser. I know very little about these tabletop laser units and haven't seen a lot of discussion here about them but it sure feels like it is right in the GJ wheelhouse. I had kind of figured one of the...

Tube in Tube - Epoxy Joint?

1" Square going into a 1.5"x.120 wall Square. So I have about 1/8" of fill space. Doesn't make sense to do a field weld on this one and not practical to field measure and weld in the shop due to time/distance between shop and install location. My first inclination is to mix epoxy and pour...

Mastering of Hackery - welding a SDS bit.

I did a small project for a guy about 6mo ago. He thought that I was a pretty handy sort of guy so....This week he called to see if I could come drill a rock out of a pipe, sends me a video from inside the 2" pipe. He then grumbled about his efforts to this point and price to even consider...

    Gate Hinges

I am getting ready to build a gate for driveway back to my shop. This will be a substantial 14' swinging gate weighing about 800# Post is 6x6x.25 Square tube. it will be embedded in concrete to about 4'. I am not loving any of the hinge designs that I can buy for lack of adjustment to fine...

Sort of Tool Q? - Plasma Water Table

So I am up and running with my CNC Plasma Table and for the first time I filled it with water. Huge improvement in smoke and dust. Now for the problem. - The thing is sitting in my loft with Wood floor (Sub floor really). With the amount of splash out, what can I put on the floor to contain...

    Security Cameras

I have read some of the prior threads and been looking at the latest gizmos and apps out there. What I haven't seen is an answer to my challenge. My situation - the closest point of the shop is about 75' away from my Wifi Access Point. I currently get spotty service from it on my phone when in...

    240VAC 2pole Breakers

I have a question that I can't figure out. My 240V breakers are from all outward appearances just 2 120V breakers stuck together and a pin placed between the levers. The question is - if I go buy a 40A 240 breaker is that really 2 20A strapped together or 2 40A breakers?

    Pole addition to Stick built

So I have a 36x42 that is good space for working but I would like to get some covered parking for stuff I can't / won't put inside. My first thought was a long lean-to but to get 2 wide for toy trailers I end up with pretty hefty lumber to span it and the pitch of roof even if I break the 5/12...

    Tons of dead 4' Tubes

Background Info: I have 15 - 4 lamp fixtures in my shop (36x42) about 18' up in the air. All T12 bulbs currently. I have a lot of tubes that need replacing and probably more than a few ballasts will be identified as I try to replace bulbs. I have not sheetrocked the lid but it is on the list...

How to get a perfect radius

Have a 1/2" plate that I want to put a radii on the edge of. I am not set up to mill the edge of plate. How can I put a consistent radius on about 12' of edge. If I was working in wood it would be easy with a roundover bit in the router.

    Challenger Panel

Does anyone here know if the root cause of the problems with the challenger panels was the breaker them selves or the buss-bar in the panel? I have a panel that has a breaker that has arc burns and need to know if replacement with the BR style breaker for all the breakers is where I can go or...

    Too big to handle

Quick turnaround fab project has a fun one for me right now. Project needs a couple panels just over 6' x 11' of 1/4" plate I had to order materials before the field measure was done. Had to get 8x16 pieces of plate and will cut down myself. They sure as hell aren't coming off the trailer...

    Rivnut Tool

Any recommendations? I have a project that will have a couple hundred to install then it will be just periodic use. I tend to lean towards the bigger ones that can do 5/16 but for this project it will probably be all 1/4" and #10 sized screws.
