Show us your cool, "old" drill press

The casting kit I'm getting is a bit less fancy And I'd say that guy is incredibly optimistic.... Even taking a zero off would still be optimistic... Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Apart from new chinese vises and the very occasional American one, you never really see them here either. Vast majority of the vises I've seen in industry were 4-6" fixed base records Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

What kind of tools have you found in the road??

I found what looked to be a new 3/8 drive craftsman 10mm socket on the side of the road the other day Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    Tools from the old world

I've considered them, and stahlwille. There is just something I really like about hazet tools, and close to half of my current set is older hazet. I really like the feel of their wrenches, even more than my mac and snapon Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

I'd be interested in a birtman electric badge for my rock island as well if someone gets them made. As for the screws, I've generally made them from a piece of drill rod on the lathe when needed. Turn and thread it on the end, part off where the head ends, and use either a slitting saw in the...

DRIVESITFAR'S TOOL FINDS. SOME ARE JUST COOL AND SOME ARE WTF so please help

I think we had mentioned this when we were down there, but that addressograph would be absolutely perfect for a machine shop for organizing twist drills, reamers, end mills, tool bits, ect It'd be pretty nice for bolts and hardware too Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    Tools from the old world

Unfortunate to hear they went down in quality.... The stuff I've got is definitely hazet/snapon equivalent. Generally the only new hand tools I buy are proto and knipex. But I've been very tempted to replace my assorted set of wrenches (all good stuff, but not matching) with a set of new hazet...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

For what it's worth, out of the several hundred records and paramos I've seen both for sale and in use up here, maybe two had swivel bases. They never seemed to catch on with English pattern vises. And the English swivel bases I've seen don't look half as well designed or build as what I've...

Show us your cool, "old" drill press

Well I've got an interesting project coming up... A friend of mine works at the Navy Dockyard, and they have some spare rough casting sets for the final project for machinist students. An aluminum 12" drill press. Looks like I'll be getting one of those to finish, and the blueprints for the rest...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I've seen a few 6" paramos around, and they are definitely solid vises. I think they are substantially better than records Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    Tools from the old world

They were used, from a Craigslist seller who I buy a huge amount of stuff from. He puts aside anything German for me. I'd guess they're at least 30 years old. I like them almost as much as my hazets, and that's saying something Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    Tools from the old world

Does anyone have experience with German made Elora tools? I've got a set of their double open ends I love, never seen anything else from them. Seem to be very high quality Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

DRIVESITFAR'S TOOL FINDS. SOME ARE JUST COOL AND SOME ARE WTF so please help

If I had the space, one of those bins would be great. Eventually I'd like to find space for a blueprint cabinet like those ones you've got as well. Should be just the thing for organizing sandpaper, Scotch Brite, patterns and templates, ect Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    The VISES of Garage Journal

It wouldn't be the first time someone in the military borrowed something they liked. The number of tools I've got with WWII royal air Ministry stamps on them.... I'd say it's definitely plausible Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Drives, that looks like a pretty good mask. I've got a more typical cartridge respirator with HEPA cartridges intended for asbestos. The problem I've found is beards prevent them from sealing right. I've been getting my dust collection set up better as well, which helps even more. I've been on...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Drives, I did the brazing a while ago, just haven't had a chance to mill it down yet. I've been out of action with a lung infection for nearly 3 weeks now, which hasn't helped either. Hopefully I'll be able to get back in the shop before too long though Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Interesting, could be an earlier military production vise then. I'm not the biggest expert on Wilton dates though. Those no 3s sure are a sweet little vise though Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    Tools from the old world

Those knipex strippers look identical to the Swiss made Klein katapult strippers. If they work even half as well as the Klein's, they'd be hard to beat Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Those Wilton's look great! I know the patent pending mark was on vises made at least until 1945, if not later. It's definitely an early one though. There should be a date stamp somewhere on the key Drives, the Morgan and the big Peter wright will definitely do anything I'd need. Bigger is...
