    shop stereo ideas

Right now, crappy old Aiwa system with bookshelf speakers that only the radio works on. Planned for spring is old laptop hooked to a fairly nice stereo receiver I got for free from work. Radio will be one button to turn on, but if I want to play mp3's or Pandora I can boot up the laptop...

    Shop pranks

Not much of a shop prank, but still fun and mostly harmless. Couple jobs ago I worked for a company that had low voltage cablers on staff. One of the cablers buys his first new car and raves about it. He wasn't the brighest bulb, but was a nice kid none the less. Every morning he would...

    A reason to support Sears..

Most of the stuff in my toolbox has Craftsman stamped on it. But after the last few more complicatied items I bought there have failed or broken, I made a self imposed new rule. Buy nothing from Sears that has more than 2-3 parts. Socket: One part Wrench: One part Screwdriver: Two...

    Torn between two houses

If you are past the kid point in life. House A and find a shop to rent. If you are planning for kids or have little ones. House B

FS: Two old Cadillac Shop Manuals (From the 30's)

The coverless one is 24 pages listed in the index and that's how many pages I have. The one with the cover is 127 pages. I have flipped through them and they were for sure cool to read and look through. I should probably just list them on ebay at some point this week.

Michelin Man Commercial Signs Bibendum *BIG*

So tempting, of course I have buddies all over Denver but nobody in Colorado Springs and none of them have trucks (I know, how does one live without a truck in CO). Is storage an option till I make the drive? The drive would not happen till there is skiable snow in the mountains.

    Window and door trim ideas?

Still looking/thinking of ideas. Jamb extensions are done and while I was waiting for my joint compound to dry on the walls. I ran to Home Depot, Menards and Northern Tool and roamed around, but nothing jumped out at me yet. I'm going to stop back at the metal scrap yard some day this week...

I have had these forever and am trying to do some clean up/out of stuff I do not need. Not really sure what they are worth, but I know I would want them if I owned an old Caddy or something close to it. $25 shipped in the 48 states. Book 1 Book 2, Cover is MIA Date stamp on the top...

    Home Depot competitor coupon?

I use Lowes coupons all the time at HD, but never thought of trying a HF one. I used to buy HD gift cards off of ebay, Was pretty common to get them for 12-13% below face value when I started buying them. Toss on a 10% off coupn and it sure helped at the checkout. But over time that 12-13%...

How do you guys do it?!?!

Went to a guy's garage a few weeks back to give him a few pointers on a motor swap he is attempting. There was not room on the floor for both of me feet less alone trying to walk around the car. I was polite, but when I left the place I just kept thinking the guy will never get that swap done...

Installing a lift outside - thoughts?

I can think of one shop here in MN that has an outside 2 post lift. I have driven by in winter and there has been cars on it when it is darn cold out. Guessing the pump has to be very slow in MN winter temps also assuming it is the newbie that gets stuck working on it. Actually, I think all...

Favorite material for interior garage walls

I did one wall in my basement storage room with this stuff. http://www.shopequip.co.za/images/silver%20Grey%20slat%20board%20Large.jpg I bought a bunch of cheap used hooks from a place that sells new and used retail fixtures. I actually stack lumber (lots of hooks to support the weight) on it...

Question on Snap On instinct handles

Just to help ID them. Depending on your level of OCD, be careful with some of the rarer colors. The truck will not have them in stock and even ordering them can be an issue. I passed up a screaming deal on a set of teal handled screwdrivers a few months back, I knew that I would not be...

    Window and door trim ideas?

Went to the local scrap metal warehouse today and looked around, but nothing jumped out at me. Hopefully, this weekend I can do some work on the garage and come up with some sort of idea.

    Rain Barrel Systems?

I have thought about this many times. Even have gutters on the garage that would work perfect for collection. Problem I keep thinking about: 40 or 55 gallon barrel is not a lot of water Plastic barrels are ugly, bigger plastic barrels/tanks only get uglier Gravity feed system will be darn...

Garage build - Modern, Shed Roof, Rain Screen Siding

Haha, I looked at the first pictures and thought wow this looks just like south Minneapolis. My last house was 46th and Portland, moved outside the loop for a bigger lot a few years back, but I sure miss things like walking to Pepitos or watching the marathon. Maybe someday I'll move back to...

What paint finish do you use and why?

My walls are white already, but I am getting ready to freshen them up. I sorted all the cans of white/or darn close to white I have and found an almost full gallon of white at my folks house. My plan is to grab a clean 5 gallon pail and a couple autobody supply paint funnels and pour them...

    Window and door trim ideas?

Sorry inside. Outside is standard brick molding. 2x4 windows and door in 2x6 walls that are already sheetrocked, so to late to pull something like that off. Heading out right now to cut and fit pine to make the windows and door flush with the wall. That is if I can stand the heat.

    Window and door trim ideas?

I have one service door and two windows to trim out. Sure I could go to the big orange box store down the road and buy some pine and be done in a few hours. But I'm looking for ideas for something more industrial looking. I keep going back to the idea of some sort of AL or stainless but I...

    Another Newbie from MN.

Thanks guy. I am currently aircooled less. I sold my 74 super beetle last summer. My dad and I bought it when I was 15 and restored it the best we could. Two paint jobs and 20 years later it was time to sell it. I know I will be back into an aircooled at some point in my future. Just not...
