    Texas detached garage ceiling insulation

Centex, thanks for endorsement of radiant barrier. I was kind of skeptical of those - heard they can ruin the roof shingles, but then if you read enough, everything has a possible downside. I've got to quit reading. Is this the kind you staple under the rafters? Any certain brand or place to...

    Spark Plug Gap Gauge

No, they are not more accurate. But they are easier. You put the thin portion in the gap and slide the plug around to the right number. The remove it. Then check again, and slide a little more, because the ground arm will spring back some. the wire type are better, and the plier type is...

    Texas detached garage ceiling insulation

CenTex, You're right about that. That is what makes it harder to choose, when there's more than one way to about everything. I don't think I even need the radiant barrier, but who know, could add it some day. You're up between Manor and Taylor? My grandma was from near Coupland a 100 years...

    Texas detached garage ceiling insulation

Mike, Thanks for that. The batt facing is a vapor barrier, but probably not a very good one, if laid in from the top side of the joists - no way to seal it up very good. I'm not really about having perfection, it's a garage, but just want to not cause problems down the road. Yes I've thought...

Survey with Prize - What Interior Socket Color?

Not an industrial user. Inside color would not make a difference to me. I agree with the champagne making it look like a novelty item, though, so would prefer silver. Most of mine are greasy black with a few really old rust colored ones.

    Texas detached garage ceiling insulation

Okay, so I'm about finished drywalling the ceiling in my detached 2car garage. It's in Houston, it's hot most of the year. Well, at least it's not cold very much. I was going to put batts in the attic joists with paper backing. Yes, I know, I should have done this before drywalling, but...

Help Me Stock My Garage With Equipment

The combo mill/lathe will limit what you can mill because of the small table size. Also, turning diameters may be reduced some except near the chuck. They are probably okay for small hobby milling, but I think you would be better off holding out for better machines. I bought a used Southbend...

    CADCAM Suggestions

Fun, 3D is great, if you have it. When I had the Solidworks solid modeler, it was great! Had the whole yard, driveway, and garage modeled. Foundation, sills, studs, joists. Didn't bother with the rafters, though. Toolboxes, shelves, machine tools, vehicles.... Of course, some items are...

    CADCAM Suggestions

Turbocad has been around for a long time. Under 100.00. 1 or 2 version old are available on ebay for around 20. Also Designcad 3d Max. I use Microstation and Solidworks at work, but recently lost the home use rights. So, probably go back to TurboCad. Alibre seems okay, but they really want...

    wilton vises

Rob, Thanks. I'll check on the vise when I get home, I'm sure you're probably right. There is a number on it, but no label. Thanks, Billy

    levelling floor for VCT

Has anyone had to level their concrete before laying VCT? My garage floor is a little wavy in some places. It would be nice to have it flat, but would the patch mix you get from Lowe's or HD work? The stuff I used before in the my house for a wood floor seemed extremely weak, or easily pulled...

    Folding Workbench (Murphy Style)

If you can use a wooden one, check out www.plansnow.com They have lots of storage plans for woodworking and storage that could be adapted. One is a wall mounted folddown worktable. Billy

    wilton vises

The ones on mine were 1/4"-20 socket head, don't remember the length. Has anyone found a source for the jaws? Or should I just make some? There is no model number tag on mine, but it is a swivel 4.5", with pipe jaws. Thanks, Billy

    cabinet handle idea

The safety issue is a good one, however, the wrenches could still be use. Just cut a pocket in the face of the door, and mount the wrenches flush with the door face. I think that would still get the look and not have any snag points for clothing, air line, or cords. Billy

    McMaster vibration isolators

Enco also gives you a code in the email that gives you free shipping if your purchase is over $50. Or something like that. I got mine from Airgas/Rutland Tool locally, but they are online, also. Billy

More Ebay Stupidity (warning, Snap On related!!!)

So, I must be one of the smartest people around? It's pretty bad when the seller even says what it sells for from SO and they still bid higher. Ebay's okay for stuff you can't find just anywhere though. I've bought most of my repair parts for an old South Bend lathe that I couldn't find...

Do you wear your wedding band?

I've worn mine for 18 years. Only time it comes off is when it gets repaired. I've snagged it on nails several times, and broke it. Lucky the ring broke, not my finger. Around electrical, or sometimes machining, I'll take it off. I'm lost too without my watch and billfold. Billy

Some of the stuff I make in my shop...

Hey, I'm new here, but wanted to say: Nice wheels! I'm glad to see others making model parts. Dont want to be alone! I like making model parts, too, just haven't done much lately. It's on hold for other things. I have an older Sherline that's good for small parts, but was always on the...
