Pioneer mini-split: happy? wish you'd spent more?

I also went to their warehouse to pick up my systems. They were great. They walked me through the installation while we were looking at the actual hardware. I was happy with their service.

Pioneer mini-split: happy? wish you'd spent more?

I have two 18k++ units. The outside units are remarkably quiet. You can barely hear them from 15 feet. They are ~1/4 the volume of the outdoor unit on my house.

Window A/C unit vs Garage door

At my last house in an HOA, I mounted a large window unit where my wall met my ceiling. I build a large plywood box to hold the a/c and i had a partition in the box where a window would typically be. I then individually routed each partition through the attic and to vents I installed in the...

    Just finished my LED install

I understand what you're saying, and I've recently learned about all the details you mentioned and modeling the space to determine the actual foot candles. I appreciate the science; however, my experience has shown me something more practical. The fact is that every shop I've been in that has...

Mini Splits in a large shop???

My suggestion was in post #12. I'll copy it here: I only run my mini splits a few nights a week and most of the weekend, so I don't have a good cost estimate. My shop is on it's own meter and the bill is $20-$24 per month. The a/c can't cost that much.

Mini Splits in a large shop???

The system I recommended was about $4500 total. It has two outside units so it's redundant. With 6 interior heads, it would equalize temps throughout the shop.

    Just finished my LED install

Lighting is definitely as much personal preference as it is defined rules. My wife and kids think my shop is too bright. However, I'm looking forward to always being able to see what I'm working on. Now that I've been in there a few nights, I would probably be okay with 12 fixtures instead of...

    Just finished my LED install

I installed LED's in part of my shop last night. It's a 24x25x10 partition (10' at walls, 13' at peak). I installed 16 fixtures with 2 LED bulbs in each. I went with 5000k. Thanks to the GJ experts for the recommendations, both for the equipment and the amount of light. Without this forum...

    Woodworkers!! ....i need chisel set

If you are willing to spend the $400, the set of 5 PM-V11 chisels is what you want. Hard to swallow the price tag, but a woodworker will really appreciate these.

Mini Splits in a large shop???

Based on your good insulation and desire to only cool to 78-80°, I think you could get by with as little as 72k BTU of cooling. For your needs, the larger version of my system would work. For each of your 100' walls, I'd use a 3-zone outside unit which would drive three 12k indoor units. This...

    Garage Door Torsion Springs Broken

This is true for tons of things everyone does around the garage - jacking up a car, welding, using a shop press, airing up a tire... yet garage springs seem to be the only thing that "should be left to the professionals". It's weird.

Question on OSB for workshop walls

The rust debate is a tough one. There's lots of info on the net about this, but very little of it appears trustworthy. My local foam guy convinced me. He's been doing this for a while with good results. My plywood is mounted horizontal and attached through horizontal furring strips. That...

Question on OSB for workshop walls

Scared of what? I'm curious. The structure can handle 180mph winds. I just Googled an equation for loading due to wind speed. This should be a good rough estimate of building strength --> q=V^2/383.6=100^2/383.6=84.5psf. That's 84.5 pounds of wind pressure per square foot. So a 10'x30' wall...

Question on OSB for workshop walls

I'm almost done building a similar size metal building here in Florida. I was planning on using cheap 1/2" plywood or OSB, but I found something better at Home Depot. They had really nice 3/4" BC plywood that looked great and was very flat. It was only $30/sheet. I bought just over 60 sheets...
