Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

This did not happen to me, but a guy I worked with. The motor home plant burned down. So they used the employees to rebuild it. One of the guys was stapling plywood on the roof. It was an automatic gun,. If you kept the trigger down, and touched the guard down on the work, the stapler fires...

I am disappointed. I thought you were going to tell us how you put the bad transmission behind the bad engine.

    Wood stove installation help

Problem # 1 You need 18" from the floor to bottom of the fire box. You have flammable liqueds in the shop/garage, maybe some propane. Problem # 2 A 45° bend is more efficient than the 90° you used and it will be difficult to clean the pipe. An option would be to use a tee instead of one...

Squirrels and bats are ruining my builds

We use peanuts in a live trap. But we have to keep the trap out of the neighbors sight. They love the nasty things. After the squirrel trips the door, we put them in a large trash bag and fold the bag over the opening. I then insert a CO2 horn into the bag and very gently discharge some CO2...

    Wood stove installation help

20 years on the truck, every fire we went to, the owner was totally surprised when their woodstove caught the building on fire. Every one had a wood stove that was not installed as per code. Most were caused by lack of clearance. But, hey it is your house, so you get to burn it down if you want.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I backed the Road King out of the garage and went for a ride. After the ride, I put the Road King back in the garage. Does that count?

Father & son basement 3 car & shop build

You already did something stupid. You did not check whatever passes for building codes in your area. I expect if you had, you would have found 2 layers of sheetrock would have been required. Next you will go to Home Cheapo and buy cheap disposable extinguishers.

    Free Lenox sawzall blade

Every thing worked OK. But why, in the question about what brand of blades you use, was there no mention of Milwaukie? To date, I buy Lennox or Milwaukie. I find no difference in the quality of either brand. I do not like the new holesaw design. I find it does not hold up like the...

Pipe thread connections - what's the trick to getting it right?

I have not used the above, I use LH 056 Permabond. Not cheap! But it does not wash out and you can reverse the fitting for alignment if needed. A bit thin for gas work. The real problem is the CIS (Cheap Import ****) pipe fittings that are sold, and bought in America. Whenever possible, I...

    Lowes installation services - RANT

On one of the contractor forums a recurring theme is contractors who have gotten screwed by Lowes/Home Depot. The big box screws up the order, deliveries are not made, damaged material, and payment is late, short or non-existant. How to remedy the problems? Get three estimates, in writing...

    Fire Extinguisher Info

A good thread. I do not know the requirements for commercial use in your state, but Oregon Fire Code, 2010 Edition references NFPA 10-2010. General has been out of business since about 1973. As such, General FX are not to be recharged or pressure tested. Dry chem made prior to Oct 1984 are not...

Apartment Garage - Removing dividing walls

Looks like the dividing walls are load bearing walls. You need to get a structural engineer or an experienced and qualified contractor to look at the walls. And if you are going to be doing that much work, you should contact the local building department, before doing any work. There may be...
