    Waterproofing block frost wall

You do this so the water won't penetrate the wall above the frost line and then freeze / thaw your mortar joints apart. The block will absorb moisture as well unless you specified a CMU with a waterproofing admixture (dry-block).

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Bald is Beautiful - 7k sq feet+ of Gruntledness

I agree with this, but the issue with the smaller tiles is having more grout lines. Epoxy grout would be preferred but is a ***** to install.

Yikes!! It's interesting how different regions with the same issues (i.e. 4 seasons) have their own take on these things. First off you're mixing up terms on parts of the wall assembly. The exterior needs a "weather resistive barrier" over the sheathing to keep any weather that penetrates the...

The siding is off. What's the best way to insulate?

THIS!! Once insulation is added, then the other pieces are required if you don't want moisture / mold issues. A vapor retarder on the inside and weather resistive barrier on the exterior beneath the siding.

Used Car Lot rehab and build thread

I was going to ask about the reroof as well. Did you add any insulation? That will be your biggest point of heat loss. Even a small amount will help to balance out internal temperatures. I'll also concur with the port above about adhering the membrane (either fully adhered or mechanically...

Real world cost to build a 24x30 garage?

Not sure why you'd want to over compact - the soil will eventually expand back and crack your slab. Anytime we need engineered fill for a building pad, the code calls for special inspections to verify the compaction. Too much is just as bad as not enough. Hope you have no issues...

Craftsman 31014 ball bearing roller cabinet 49.99

These are junk as a few others have mentioned. I regret getting 3 of these for my workbench build a couple of years ago on a similar deal. The drawers do not hold weight well and the slides can easily pull apart. the metal is very thin... Sometimes a deal is not a deal.

Black huh. Folks will start thinking you're a Harley guy or somethin'..... Pick a color you're using in / on the house. It's also a large focal area viewed from your driveway so decide how much you would want a strong contrasting color. Dark colors can also get pretty warm in the sun, if it has...

Design Thread 30x36 with pics / drawings

Looks good! My only comment is that your toilet room looks a little small. Not much room to turn around... A standard "stall" in a restroom is about 5' deep. That gives you about 3' for the fixture and a couple of feet to move around in. Also, think about how to sound isolate your compressor...

Have been enjoying this thread! I'm glad you found prefinished ply, as that makes things go so much faster! For the S.S. sink, one detail I've done in the past is to add a couple of layers of the "Dynamat" type sound deadening material used for cars around the outside and under the bottom. This...

Enjoying your renovation! Re: your cork flooring: Cork is pretty much treated just like wood flooring - sanding (lightly!), staining if preferred and use the same finishes. We installed it in our old house in the kitchen and bathroom and loved it. Used the OS brand Wax / oil finish - brushed...

Grabbed an old 10 drawer IBM card cabinet for tool storage...

My first post... I grew up with these in the garage. My dad worked with IBM main-frames (insurance co.) and they dumped hundreds or even thousands of these units in the trash in the mid 70's. Thats trash and NOT recycling.... You have to understand that no one really saw any future use for...
