Do you need a good drop light... then check this out!!

I started using CFLs in my drop lights some time ago. They seem to last much longer than any incandescent. A friend let me use a corner of his body shop to do some work on my car a few years ago. He had 3-4 "trouble lights", including a really nice 50' retractable, with no bulbs. He was tired...

I am not a smart man!

I have that same 70s vintage gold/yellow/ugly vinyl flooring in my kitchen and laundry room. Please tell me it's not the original stuff in the trailer. Lie if you need to.:wtf: Thanks a lot for creating yet another project for me. I can no longer deny that it needs replaced. :lol_hitti

    good decently priced bottom box?

Craftsman boxes have gotten "lighter duty" over the years. But so have the offerings from the "Big Boys", ie:Snap-On, Mac, Matco, etc. Pricing has stayed consistent, though. I don't know how old your Craftsman top box is, but it's likely you will have to look to the Big guys for a lower box...

Drill Dr. - Does it work?

I've known guys that could sharpen even very small bits on a bench grinder in just a few seconds. I really hate those guys. I was taught how to manually sharpen a bit many years ago in school but could never really develop a "feel" for it. (Same with my welding skills.:headscrat). I...

4 cycle engine to air compressor

I've seen one of those in use (actually a "Windsor" motor, likely a 302) some years ago when there was construction going on at my place of employment. It's a very cool setup. I mentioned it in a thread here on GJ, maybe 2 years ago, that I started about automotive engines adapted for...

I found a great alternative for locating used cabinets

I used to pick up quite a few things at the Re-Store near my old job. Only open 3 days a week and you had to get there early to get the "good" stuff, much like a flea market or estate sale. It's a really busy place and the proceeds go to a very worthy cause. Found a really nice...

Tech: how to adapt vintage porcelain barn lamps for your shop

Very cool, IMM. Nice work and a great "fix". You're not being very historically accurate, though. My memory says that there should only be about a 25W bulb in each of those, just enough to navigate through the barn. Your finished product doesn't even have the requisite coating of...

Are picture tube tv's really that obsolete ?

Buster, That tv was made back when Zenith was still a US company, and still meant a "quality" brand. My buddy just retired one of the first "big screen" Zeniths, purchased new in about 1985. IIRC, it was a 28 or 30 Inch CRT. He slept with that TV on every night from the day it was new, and...

Are picture tube tv's really that obsolete ?

Amen! I'm a big fan of hollow state amps, but always give credit where it's due. A lot of better quality 70's SS equipment rocks! There was sure a lot of junk on the market back then at the lower end, but on the higher end... I don't think there's anything comparable...

Great (?) DFW craigslist Deal on an 80g horizontal tank compressor (not mine)

Nice compressor and well worth the price, IMHO. Around here , compressors like that must be made of gold or something. It would be listed at $1000, languish for a couple of weeks, then sell for about $750.

    Beer bottle opener

AArrrgggghhhh!!! I had a couple of buddies that would do that back in the day. It made me cringe to the point of nausea. Still does just thinking about it. Metal on my teeth....? Oohh, Nooo!:wtf:

    Charging Station

Duh! I see now that we/re talking about chargers for cordless tools, not automobile batteries. If all of your tools are the same voltage (mine certainly aren't) there are bank chargers that can hold 6-8 battery packs and can be mounted to a wall. We have one at work for our 18V drills...

    Charging Station

A shop I worked in had a charging station capable of charging batteries about 8-10 at a time. The charger was integrated into a bench and jumpers could be plugged into a strip on the top and connected to a battery as needed. Longer leads were available for charging in the car. There was a manual...

    Really stupid moves

I've done that, and my driveway is flat! I walked out the side door, jigged around the car parked in the driveway, got into the car in the garage and backed straight into the other car. My 17 yo. son pulled the best one, though. We had the 4 wheeler sitting nosed into the garage door opening...

Whats one thing you REALLY want for your Garage?

Be thankful and stop smirking, ya warm weather wimp. Here's a :beer:and a friendly "you ****". My shop is down approx. November-April, give or take, except for critical jobs, emergencies or the odd nice weather anomaly. I haven't even opened the door for a week, and that was to bring out the...

Whats one thing you REALLY want for your Garage?

Like many, there's more than one thing I REALLY want. If I could come up with just any ONE of these things I would be :bounce:, I'm not greedy: -Heat (Along with the ability to contain it for a while). -A Lift (2 post, 4 post, anything to get my ~50yo **** off the floor) -A floor that's not...

So basically you're saying that you are/were just an abusive *******? That goes well beyond a"prank", dude.

    Shop pranks

I worked in a small trucking company shop back in the early 80s. One "Foreman", 2 full time Mechanics and a part time oil change guy. The place was a total zoo, but we got the job done. I was Mech #2. The part timer was the most mature and level headed employee of the bunch. :wtf: He...

    Shop pranks

Thanks for all of the good ones, guys. I've seen quite a few of them, but there are many that I wouldn't have thought up in a million years! Not really a shop prank, but... We had just gotten a new Hunter "computerized" alignment machine installed in the shop, circa 1993. An...
