Its just a big piece of laminated butchers block a friend had they were going to throw away. I routed the bottom out to fit onto the box so it won't move around and routed out the center for a piece of 1/8" aluminum. I stained the top then sealed with spar urethane.

Just finished the top for mine the other day.

I already have several sets of hansen's they are the ****. Just didn't know if impacts would fit on them.

I absolutely loathe the rails, I think everything about them is terrible. I especially hate fighting the sockets to get them on and off and then they move around too much and you gotta **** with the clip because it got bent. Its getting my blood pressure up just thinking about them. :shocking:

Yeah I ended up getting the hansen's I have some craftsman sockets I want to try to consolidate.

Those are some good ideas, I do have access to a planer though and I would like the look of multiple seams on the top. I don't plan to pound on it as I have a work table right next to where my box goes. Just a top to set tools, new parts, paperwork, etc on. As for shipping I think I can get it...

I really wanted a stainless top, but new they are a little expensive. I was wondering if anybody has made something to use as a top. I would think the easiest things would be to use wood. I was thinking using 2x6s or 8's? biscuit and glue together, sand smooth, stain and lacquer. What would I do...
