    130V bulbs with 120V power?

Hi Fellas, What is up with this - Is this a problem or what? Will they still provide the rated amount of Lumens? Will they last as long as a 120V bulb would? I'm looking at Halogen bulbs that say they're rated for 130V.... but I've only got 120-125V for power in my pole building/shop...

Any one run a used oil heater in shop?

Carl, 1- Do you know what parts / sections of the oil burner have to cleaned when burning synthetic oils? 2- How long is your 'down time' while performing the cleaning? 3- When using that much used oil, do you have inline pre-filters or simply allow it to sit and 'settle out' or decant for a...

    Shop lights

Fellas, Many of your garage lighting pictures indicate you're not using diffusers. Isn't a diffuser a good thing to use to reduce the glare and keep the bulbs clean? It would seem to me that without diffusers, a person would/should be wiping down - washing those bulbs at least twice a year...

O/T: Convert LP Grill to NCG?

Hi Fellas, I know this is a bit off topic, but I also know you guys have the answers! I'm talking about a standard, run-of-the-mill Char-Broil grill that's maybe 11" x 26". It has two burner controllers. To make the conversion, I believe I need to drill out the nozzles at the...

    Best repair/improve of salt-damaged concrete?

Thanks again for the replies, Fellas! rt66jt, Can a novice operate a scarifier successfully? I've heard of a scarifier, but never seen one run. I will do some reading up on the products you mentioned: Ardex CD (Concrete Dressing), Level Layer III by Dayton and the Weldcrete...

    Best repair/improve of salt-damaged concrete?

Fellas, 1st off, THANKS for everyone's replies! Now some answers: No, I've never ground down any concrete - I was just assuming I'd need to do it just to get the salt out/off of the rough surface in order to stop the concrete corrosion process ? by the salt. I was assuming that I couldn't...

    1/2" or 3/4" air system?

John, Many folks will fasten the the main supply line to stand off blocks, such as 4" sections of 2x4s on the flat every 4' or so. This can be done with normal pipe clamps that nail down. The 1.5" thickness of 2x4 section will allow for air circulation around the pipe for cooling and if any...

Burying a Brass and Copper Union

Ron, Instead of using 6" PVC pipe, why not use a section of 8 or 10" painted metal stove pipe? If you backfill around it with a 4-8" of clean sand (clay soil would 'eat on it' over time), I'd bet it would last you plenty long enough and it may give you the room to contain all the fittings and...

    Concrete Floor Insulation

Fellas, 1) When you guys refer to placing polypropylene sheeting down for a vapor barrier,,,do you somehow tape or seal the seams, or do you just overlap the edges, or ??? 2) Same type of question regarding the sheet styrofoam, do you simply bunt the edges or do you tape or bond the...

Is it ok to prettify the breaker box?

One downfall of doing what you suggest is in the case of an emergency. If someone - and it may very well NOT be you (like maybe a firefighter?) - needs to throw a breaker or the main QUICKLY - the task will be delayed for likely more than a few minutes while he/she is in search of the breaker...

    Best repair/improve of salt-damaged concrete?

Hi Fellas, My garage floor has become BADLY PITTED/FLAKING due to the attack of melting road salt that is brought in by the wife's car every winter. My garage is not heated so it doesn't get hosed out until late Spring, which allows the salt to lay there for weeks/months to eat on the concrete...

    Garage Floor Options

Hammer, I agree with your train-of-thought there! Is your garage heated? Reason I ask is because my garage floor has become BADLY PITTED/FLAKING due to the attack of melting road salt that is brought in by the wife's car every winter. My garage is not heated so it doesn't get hosed out...

Please Post Pictures of Painted OSB Interior Walls and Ceilings

I'd think it would depend on whether or not you plan to insulate the walls and with what type of insulation. With that being said, I'd say you'd want a vapor barrier via plastic sheeting (if no insulation was planned) or if you do plan to insulate, use insulation (styrofoam or spun fiberglas)...

Please Post Pictures of Painted OSB Interior Walls and Ceilings

Rather than using a water-based paint, has anyone here painting OSB with an oil-based paint? I'm thinking that the OSB would not soak up & pucker as much? Just a thought,,,,,,,, Ryan W

    Wire load question

Thanks for the replies, Guys!! kbs2244, Because it is mounted in my lower radiator hose and I keep the coolant system filled, I'm thinking that it shouldn't have gone dry. The hose has a gradual rise toward the engine so I can't see where it would have produced an 'air pocket' in the hose...

    Wire load question

Ok, Electrical Guru Dudes, here's the deal: Since I'm in mid-Michigan, it can get dang cold outside in the Winter. Since I don't want to put a sloppy, salty vehicle in my nice garage, I park my truck outside, backed up to the edge of the 20' concrete approach. So that puts it about 40' from...

    Oil-less vs. oiled air compressor

EXCELLENT POINTS!! Please allow me to emphasize the last point: I don't care what size or type of compressor you have - if you don't drain the condensate regularly (drain frequency is directly related to the amount of run time & the humidity level of the incoming air) it will lay in the...
