220v ceiling mount heater in Canada?

My wife wants to buy me a heater for Christmas. I want one I can ceiling mount and hard wire. And I want to mount a thermostat on the wall to control it. I have 220v available in sub-panel in the garage already. I'm wondering where to buy such a thing in Canada, specifically in...

    Attic loading

To the OP. The way I interpret the notes, the bottom chord is good for a dead load 10lbs/sq.ft. which is things that don't move. Like drywall and stored items. (Light stored items). Live loads are people and other moving objects. You can have zero of those. The top chord is not really in the...

Do I really need these roof supports?

Exactly. Go back to the engineer who sealed the drawing and ask if the knee braces were there just to facilitate erection or if they are still necessary.

    Fastening Sill plates to concrete

Tcianci is right. Wedge anchors would be ridiculous for this application. Its a stud wall. Hilti gun or tapcons and forget about it. Both are perfectly adequate.

    Overkill or smart?

There is no way that will last. A foot long lever with you stomping on it over and over again? That set screw will turn to mush in the firs drive. A keyway is the proper way to do it. Going right through with somthing hard might get you by but even that isn't really proper for this application...

Help me get this crazy idea out of my head

Sounds like a good idea to me. If: if you don't want to move; the realtor fees are that heafty if you do; and this will not be money wasted but added to the value of the house; and the house is going to have more kurb appeal for when you eventually move; and you need the extra space.... then I...

Garage Security "When a monitored system isn't enough"

Garage door on an opener can be defeated in about ten seconds. And every crackhead knows how. Watch youtube. Then do something to prevent it. I bolted plates to the side of my carriage to stop them hooking the pull. But it is still operable if there was an emergency of some sort.

Canadians - Where are you buying your tools, eh?

For mechanics tools, some of the canadian tire mastercraft tools are actually excellent quality. Many have a lifetime warrenty too and I've seen them honour it.

Is it worth installing a sink?

Is it worth installing a sink?

I'm working on a new workbench along the back of the garage. There is an opportunity to install a small bar sink (would be cold water only), in the middle of the bench. Bench will be about 12'-6 long x 21" deep. Is it worth it? I work on cars, for fun as a hobby, not for money. The only use...

Plywood wall skim-coated with drywall mud?h?

It doesnt sound like it's worth the trouble for $120. On a different note, if the garage is attached, drywall is nice between the garage and the house. It will buy you 20-30 minutes to put the fire out before you loose the house.

    Galv. Threaded Rod

two different processes with very different results. Keep in mind you will need to buy galvanised nuts to go with it. On galv nuts the threads are chased out slightly larger to allow for the fact that the threads on the rod or bolt are also now slightly larger.

What thickness Steel for Welding table top?

3/8 will be lots for home use. 15lb's a sq ft, I'd expect a plate like that to cost $160 plus whatever he charges to handle it. I'm actually getting something similar for my garage at home. I'm going with 1/4.

What thickness Steel for Welding table top?

Might be a bit much for home use. I only use 1/2 and 3/4 at the shop. Thats a structural shop. Takes years and years to wear the plates out.

What thickness Steel for Welding table top?

And $75 for a 3'x6' sheet of 1/4 plate is a great deal. About 42c a lb, I can't buy it for that! More like 57c/lb at the moment.

Grease pits - why they are not popular in US garages?

My dad had a pit in our garage when we were kids. Wasnt a problem. Just cover it with planks when not in use. Steps at one end to get in and out. Very useful. That said, if you currently have a flat floor and your choice is lift or pit, you'd end up going with a lift. It's useful for storage...
