    HOA vs HOME MECHANIC

My home is in a covenant (aka HOA) neighborhood with reasonable rules but we will probably move to a bigger home in a neighborhood that is more restrictive, e.g., pickup trucks must be parked in the garage overnight, fences must have brick columns every 12', no boats/campers/trailers etc. parked...

    Duckboats Central

Builder finished by end of July and I picked up the load of pine (5000 board feet of clear pine from school bleachers) I won at auction. I'll use it to finish the interior. A different contractor is just about done framing the bathroom, a wall that divides the shop and garage, attic flooring...

    Dad's Retirement Shop

That makes sense. I'm doing a similar set of stairs in my shop and was curious if there was an easier way to deal with the trimwork around them. Thanks.

mcleodross Did you sheetrock around the stairs or did you take them down, sheetrock, and then put them back up?

    Trailer planking replacement

Apitong, aka keruing, is widely used in the trucking industry for trailer beds. Searching online it runs about $3 per board foot plus you'll probably need to have it shipped unless there happens to be a distributor in your area. A cheaper but better solution would be black locust from a local...

What tool, Job or Task Intimdates you?

I spin an 8" diameter cutterhead on mine and it is damn scary. To make matters worse I'm machining small parts with it. The only sane way of doing it is a fixture to hold the pieces and guards surrounding the cutterhead in it's entirety. In actuality tablesaws cause more woodshop accidents...

    Pole Barn Posts

A lot of debate/conjecture when comparing pole setting methods and a lot of variables not fully understood. Just use UC4B CCA-C .60 posts and don't worry about it. You want poles treated for heavy duty ground contact which the above ratings give.

The duckboats will find their way there soon enough. A buddy has a Devlin Black Brant III in need of some hull work so that will be one of the first projects in the shop.

Posts went up today. They are braced in place until Monday when the concrete is poured and slab formed. Bathroom plumbing has been roughed in as well. She looks HUGE from the road.

    Duckboats Central

I figured I'd start a thread to photodocument the construction of my shop. It will be a woodshop where I can build boats, restore old woodworking machinery, make things for the family, and have friends over. First a little background information. My current shop is an overcrowded 22' x 22'...

White Roof as good or better than...

I'm in Alabama and am about to build so that is the reason I ask. My building is going to be 40x70 and split into a 30x40 woodshop and a 40x40 garage/storage area. The shop will have an attic and have AC. The garage will not have an attic nor AC. The builder is putting in a ridge vent the...
