    Samson 5229 4 inch.. what a heavy well built unit. My first rock island. This was packed in grease..hot powerwash, scrubbed, and sealed original finish with 2 coats black metal oil.

    They were mostly made here, erie, ohio, chicago etc. I live in western pa, where its a no brainer to use an older clean vise. 150-200 bucks will get you a hell of a lifetime vise

    Where are you located? If you are clise to rust belt old us vises are plentiful and often have smooth jaws.

    I fractured the leaf spring inside..need to fab another or make a coil to go around the main nut for some return action. Have you ever seen many of these? Mine is marked in roman numerals but they dont mean anything.

    Yost or HF Doyle wilton copy for a new vise. I was impressed with their size. I have the yost yost 750di, excellent all around unit.

    I just bought a 5 locally, they are out there cheap. Wonderful well built vise, up there with athol, hollands, reed, wilton, etc imho. Smooth and tight vise. Handles and jaws available reasonable from england too..this is it after jaws,, handle, repaint and big time clean.

    I made a handle for my Yost too! Used an old taiwan long 1/2" extension. Used nuts too! Lol!
