    Recessed lighting question

I just threw in R40's I had laying around. First thing I noticed was how much light was being throw out. Not only down, but also side to side and towards the road. It lights up the entire drive way and across the street. Defiantly not what I was wanting. I wanted more of a downward light that...

    Finishing my garage

Such an awesome garage you have here. Def inspiration for all of us. Just wondering, what kind of price did you get per cabinet? I know you said you kept them all the same to keep the cost down. I love the black look and it's so hard to find anyone who can make black cabinets without going into...

    Recessed lighting

Thanks guys for your replies. I understand the weather conditions that I have in Ohio will obviously call for something that can get wet. Just wasn't sure if it was something that I was able to do or not. Sounds like it is very much doable. I'm not looking to "light up the neighborhood" but I...

Garage walls going up, but now stuck with a major problem.

srmofo, I'm not in the boonies. I'm located in a township just outside the city. There are around 2500 people in the "Census Designated Place". I live in the township and there are no requirements or required inspection or codes that must be met.

Garage walls going up, but now stuck with a major problem.

tcianci, I was just asking if it would help. Others have said that 2 LVL's are fine and be done with it. I was just asking since he had mentioned it. When I was at Lowes, the man called the company to check the span and weight and said that 2 LVL's would def be strong enough. I was right in...

Garage walls going up, but now stuck with a major problem.

Well guys, went back to Lowes and spoke to the man at the commercial sales desk that I was told to speak to. He couldn't believe the other guy told me to use what I did. He immediately said to use 2 LVL's and be done. Just as you and everyone else said. I want to thank you guys for helping me...

    Looking for a thread

V-10 Killer, you sir are the man lol Now that I see your name it all comes back to me now. I remember looking at your Trans Am and your build. You have a great build going on and wanted to use your idea of building your cabinets on my own garage that I'm currently building. Thanks so much!

    Looking for a thread

Sorry it wasn't. He was building his own cabinets from 2x and only had it framed up. No counter tops or faces. It was a rather big thread I thought. It was still in just raw wood finish without any stains or paint. This may be tougher than I thought. I'm going to continue to look. I wish I...

    Looking for a thread

I know it is hard to just shoot in the dark, and even worse to ask for a thread. But I've searched and searched and just can't remember who it was and can't seem to find the thread. I forgot to subscribe and now a month has passed and can't find it. I was looking at his custom cabinets that...

Garage walls going up, but now stuck with a major problem.

Lively: Thank you, that's what I was looking for. never enuf time: Again, the sermons, I have already explained that I am not a carpenter, I am a 26 yr old Graphic Design Professor building a garage. Garage walls going up, but now stuck with a major problem.

srmofo, where in the SW are you located? Just a rough idea nothing pin point. I'm located at almost the southern tip of Ohio. I'm thinking 2 - 12" 18' LVL's will do it. Anyone else think that isn't enough? Trusting Lowes is a joke by now.

Garage walls going up, but now stuck with a major problem.

Thing is though, if he would have run it in the computer or asked the truss company they would have notified him that it wouldn't be able to hold that weight. I know if I make a mistake in my real world job I am called out on it and have to make it right. I do not have the program that will...

Garage walls going up, but now stuck with a major problem.

Should I make Lowes pay for the lumber used for the inferior beam and make ask them to discount the LVL's since I was told wrong and now I'm a week behind? What thickness do the LVL's come in? Would it be better to one thicker or 2 thinner to put together? What kind of price are they going...

Garage walls going up, but now stuck with a major problem.

never enuf time: I'm not asking for a sermon. I asked for a solution. I did not ask an every day Lowes employee walking around helping in all areas. I went to the Commercial Sales and spoke to the same people who handle all the commercial and residential orders. If i'm not mistaken, but they...
