Thoughts on Toolgrid for toolbox/tool drawer organization?

Sometimes. In my case, I print the base grids, and put magnets in them. Then I print either blank plates, or wrench holders, and put opposing pole magnets in them. That lets me rearrange and get the layout correct. My blank plates and wrench holders are all 1x1, but lots of designs are bigger.

Using crescent wrenches for car repair and what sizes you use?

I have a set of four in my big box, and I never use them. One of my neighbors realized how much it would annoy me when he used one, and now he makes a point of only working with the adjustables when he is in my garage. That's fine as long as he is working on his own stuff. I don't know if it's...

Thoughts on Toolgrid for toolbox/tool drawer organization?

@olsenmotorsports How do you handle not being able to take a whole rail of sockets to the work? Often I don't know quite what I'll need, so I usually grab the whole thing. Do you just know what you need from experience? Or do you grab a few sockets and see what fits? All of the 3D printed...

    Lift requirement question

I had to go with a baseplate due to height. It's mildly annoying to have to push a non-running vehicle over it, but so much better than not having a lift.

    12V DC microswitch amperage rating.....

That switch looks very similar to the switches in Club Car 48v DC golf carts. I've had two carts in the past week with blown switches because of a bad diode across the solenoid coil terminals. I realize this is a total thread hijack, but I've been wondering a lot how putting a diode across the...

Pressure bleeder for new GMs (and maybe others)

I have a Motive, but I've only used it on my G-body El Caminos. Those cars have a rectangular lid for the master cylinder reservoir, which snaps on. Motive makes an aluminum plate, with a setup of chains and j-hooks and wingnuts to clamp it down. It doesn't work well for me, as I have to add...

Free with trade in Panduit Label Maker

I just put a caliper on some of the 18ga I use, and got 2.5mm. I like the idea of putting heat shrink on first, also.

Free with trade in Panduit Label Maker

I got my printer a couple weeks ago (thanks pizza!). I want to label 18ga wires and 14ga wires for auto and golf cart wiring. I can't figure out which label cartridge I need. I don't see how a heat shrink tube that fits on 18ga could be big enough to read the label. Does that work? Or do I need...

Do you often use a 1/4" nut driver screwdriver?

I've never owned nut drivers until a couple months ago, when I picked up four Mac nut drivers at a garage sale for $10, and just put them in the box. I was working on a friend's boat, and part of the job included some hard to reach hose clamps. He suggested a nut driver, and I grabbed the 5/16...

    Single project/one time used tools

A Harbor Freight ratcheting pipe threader. I had smelled gas for a long time, then it got worse, so I went under the house and found a dime-sized hole rusted in a galvanized gas pipe. One plumber wanted to replace every gas pipe in the house, and the other wouldn't even consider the job. I found...

Looking to upgrade my creeper/roller seat.

Be sure that it goes low enough. My Harbor Freight stool broke, and I replace it with a Dewalt. The Dewalt is comfortable and nicely made, but it doesn't go low enough to comfortably work on things like brake jobs on a car on jack stands.

Recommendations for a newby TIG welder...

I started off with a Miller 300. It was the size of a refrigerator, and weighed 300 or 400 pounds. It was cooled with city water. It felt smooth, and worked great, but it was so big and heavy that when I moved I sold it rather than have it take up space in the new garage. Now I have an AlphaTIG...

    Cheap lift?

I got a two-post lift a few years ago, and as people have said, it's life-changing. I've worked my way up from wrenching in the street, the parking lot, the driveway, a one car garage, a two car garage, and now a larger building with air conditioning and a lift. It's so much better. And no, I...

shrink crimps, butane soldering iron vs. heat gun?

I use the Milwaukee heat gun, and I add one of the tips from this kit. It directs the heat. I see that this kit is no longer available, but I see a similar one for $7. I do a lot of crimping and heat shrinking when working on automotive wiring, and I really like the Milwaukee for shrinking...

DURATECH 42-Piece Bit Socket Set on woot.com $28.99

I check the Tools & Garden section of woot.com every day to see if there's any deals. Today I saw this 3/8 bit socket set for $28.99. It's got Phillps, slotted, internal and external Torx, and standard and metric Allen. Also a ratchet and extension. I don't know anything about the Duratech...

    Motive Products brake bleeder

I got one from Amazon a few months ago, and it came without the check valve (they called it something different). I called customer service, and they sent a new one after a week. That didn't fix the issue, so I called back, and they sent the whole pump assembly after another week wait. That got...

    Offset Box End Wrenches?

I have a Stahlwille offset box end wrench set it metric which I got as part of an estate sale. I would never have bought it by itself. Every now and then I find a situation where it is useful to have.
