Air hammer or Industrial rivet gun?

The bigger rivet guns for sure hit harder than any snap-on air hammer I've seen. This is an IR-6A, and I think 1/2" rivet for scale.

    Midwest Aviation Snips

I'm not sure that's the case? They both have compound leverage though not sure respective ratios but I suspect the same or very similar. The NWS do seem to be a tad larger and sturdier than Midwest and Wiss. This may not be an advantage if you only need to cut light weight metal. Even though...

MIG vs TIG - Exhaust ideas

Stainless can be MIG welded, just buy the wire try it. For thin stainless TIG is usually recommended, it's what I'd use for new stainless exhaust work. If you're just starting to learn TIG welding best to try on simpler things. learning on stainless, thin material, and round tubing will be...

    Midwest Aviation Snips

If you're looking for sturdier snips NWS has them. They're very nice tools, real sharp and excellent quality. I was looking a year or two ago for a nice pair of aviation type snips primarily for automotive restoration sheet metal work, 16ga (~0.060")is common on old trucks. Midwest, Wiss, and...

The Unofficial Vise Parts Swap Thread.

Is that one suitable or to large? If you have dimensions, pictures, or other info about what you're looking for it wouldn't hurt to add.

    Tool remorse depository...

Seems this thread is lots of which tool did you buy and not know the correct application for? Or not have a need. Or not know how to use it. Of the things listed so far many of them are tools I use and like, and many of the complaints are because the person didn't have a need for the tool to...

    Grease gun storage solution

Mine hangs on a hook on the side of a cabinet and beside it a tin can for the hose to drop in. Then occasionally the body of the gun would drip, so I slipped an old sock over the tube/body of the gun and leave it there, no mess and you have a rag handy to wipe your fingers off if necessary.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Two different ways of doing it. The large vise has a collar with a set screw to retain the screw in the moving jaw. The small vise uses a clip that fits in a groove in the screw

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Thanks guys, Looks like Zoomie's top right in the picture is as close as I've seen to mine so far, different finish but fixed jaw with swivel base. Now I understand about the anvil and the partial screw threads in mine. PghJKB Having seen the picture with makers mark I can now make out parts of...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Here is the little wounded 2" Prentiss cleaned up and derusted. I think the failure both top and bottom happened at the same time due to over tightening and or then whacking it with a hammer. When tightened those two areas are under the most stress and what's trying to break off. Also I'm not...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I just picked up most of a thoroughly abused little nickel plated vice very similar to this one, 2" jaws. Can someone point me to pictures of other little guys that may be more like mine, It'd be nice to see some more details and I'll make the missing pieces to repair mine. Looks like someone...

Pallet jack purchase. which one to buy??

looks good to me, price is excellent! Just look it over in person for anything wrong that may have been missed in the pictures. I have a used Crown, think I spent just a little more than $100 on it and it has been money very well spent to say the least. Had I known how handy a pallet jack...

    Quick change tool post holders

I have 4 or 5 Aloris tool post and thought they were/are the best. I also have a few Dorian brand tool post at work and I'm not sure if they're just as good as Aloris or better, they are also very nice and interchangeable. http://www.doriantool.com/

    Cordless tool platform?

I too am ready to get a cordless drill and small impact driver. Any thoughts on Metabo? I don't need a huge variety of cordless tools, just a drill (non hammer) and impact driver should keep me happy. A couple years ago I had decided on Metabo... and didn't buy anything. Still a good choice...

What would you pay for an old Quincy 325?

I agree, for $300 I'd buy a decent looking Quincy 350. I have a pair of 240's on a 125 gallon tank and one day will find a 2 stage Quincy head to replace one of the single stage heads. Sure would NOT count on selling a 3 phase motor and coming even close to covering the cost of a large single...

Getting this 60Gal Air Compressor up to par

You can weld a nut on the plug and then remove it. The heat from welding helps break any rust bond that may have formed.

What kind of tools have you found in the road??

Here's a good one... Two weeks ago on a road trip with my Dad, 400 miles from home, he's driving the truck with trailer and I spot what I'm sure is an air ratchet on the side of the highway. Way too much traffic, down hill, with trailer, not to mention that by the time I could have convinced...
